They've also been to 3 elite 8s,13 sweet sixteens, 22 tournaments, and won 17 conference titles in that 50 years(mostly in the wac and Mwc) and are 14th all time in college basketball history in total wins. At unc it would be considered by most in America to be more prestigious and high profile, east coast media would care more, he would be facing usually better teams in better arenas that actually can fill up with fans..... To me, it has less to do with how many five stars or McD AA we get here vs other schools and more to do with the perception that the talent pool in the west is below the rest of the country. The whole "football vs basketball school" thing is overblown.

Think Billy Donovan or Thad Matta care that their university has strong support for the football program?

It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. A school like Texas has the resources to have an elite basketball and football program.
