Prescott Valley / Payson

Post by azgreg »

Anybody here live in the Prescott Valley or Payson area? Me and the wife are thinking about building our retirement home around one of those areas.

I really like the Payson area myself, but, I'd look north a bit up 87 to Pine and Strawberry. A l bit higher so cooler summer's and more tall pines. Plus only 20 minutes from stores and such in Payson.

When you say Prescott Valley, are you considering Dewey? I mean, the Prescott Country Club area? Just asking so I can picture it.

I second UA Devil on Pine or Strawberry > Payson. But also, generally, that part of the Mogollon Rim seams so far out the way. A drive from Phoenix up the Busy Bee Highway, and you're just kind of out there. Prescott Valley is nicely located on the 17, connecting you to the most beautiful parts of northern Arizona and easy access back to the city. Plus, Prescott >>>> Payson, IMO. I kind of like Prescott.

We're looking for wooded area not far from stuff. You know, shopping, theaters, medical facilities (we'll be older dontcha know). Throw up a little 800 sq.ft. cabin maybe with a daylight basement and a loft.

The main thing is when I'm no longer tethered to Phoenix by work and kids I'm outa here. Too many people and too fucking hot.

Just avoid the Verde Valley and Sedona. I hear those places are overrated dumps.

One of my favorite places to hike is the West Fork Trail.

The first non-motorized trails ever are coming to Rimrock, NE of Camp Verde. They'll connect to a vista of Montezuma Well and Beaver Creek sometime next year.

More in a week, if you care to Google then.

The ex wife and I used to do weekend trips to the Payson/Strawberry/Pine area frequently when we lived in the Phoenix area. I would totally retire there. Probably in Pine or Strawberry, but Payson is pretty nice too.
