The gringo thing I'm over most is sweet corn. It's in everything, especially at Blanco. Gringos have even ruined elote.

I also got stuck at a work event at Flora's. They put sweet corn in the carbonara.
I'm going to disagree a little. Look, Blanco isn't my choice for best Mexican in Tucson at all, but it's not particularly bad. It's just adequate and not particularly spicy. I hesitate to say bland because I've had much blander.

It's just adequate and the outside portion has a beautiful view overlooking Tucson. Sometimes ok is enough.

Speaking of corn, another plug for El Chinito Gordo's esquites. No joke the best I've had and it isn't close.

Well, I've had it a few times at the airport in Phoenix. I guess I was surprised to discover the food is pretty much the same at the La Encantada. The views on the terrace is great. I was just a little offended by the sweet corn in my carne asada burrito, and I looked around at everyone enjoying themselves and felt resentful that it's they who supported this sweet corn in the carne asada burrito.

Had a great dinner at Maynard's Kitchen. But you really do have to put that in the context of $312 for two people. I can't think of a single course we had that had an expensive ingredient.

Then again, they spent two months fermenting mushrooms into a "garum" as a dessert toping.

And now they're two months out from completing the fermentation of a tepary bean miso.

Started with a cocktail. Then the tasting menu with wine pairings.

Each person got:

One Aleppo pepper croquette with fish aioli

One piece of lettuce with blue cheese and pureed beat

A miniature bowl of creamy squash soup (about five spoonfuls)

A miniature bowl of pasta with a creamy sauce with cauliflower, Calabrian chili pepper, and sausage (about four bites) - really good but the sauce needed to be cooked down more

A small plate of pima corn grits, collard greens, and pork belly with a small piece of Swiss chard (the pork belly was cooked until dry and a bit tough)

A small piece of chocolate torte with vegan rice-based coconut ice cream and a reduction of mushroom garum

Otherwise it would be like putting a dollar in the tip jar while the donut lady has her back turned. Got to keep that outside chance she'll lean toward you, her arms squeezing her cleavage together as she bites her lower lip and says, "Mmmmm. Your generosity frosts my Boston cream pie."

Within a marriage it matters what the verb "to clean" means. As an inducement or as something you get caught doing.... it matters.

The Pit is new and it was a little confusing because not all the food trucks have the same hours. One positive is they have a shaded area and really good beers to purchase. The guy doing the BBQ has a lot of potential, just needs a little more help.

For me, it's Birria and Chicken Tinga/Chorizo as Tier 1.

Tier 2: Al Pastor, Rajas, Potato.

Tier 3: Carne Asada, Carnitas and Shrimp.

Haven't tried Fish, Grilled Chicken, Chicharrones or any of the hot cheeto ones. Plus, understand Tier 3 is a really good taco, though. Tier 1 and 2 are just elite.

We're seriously thinking about it. The Juniper pollen is killing my wife, and it turns me into a snot factory in need of a Monty Python spit bucket by my bed every night. Her eyes and nasal symptoms are really bad, and I have a viscous accumulation somewhere north of the epiglottal region that sits there like grout compound. Throughout the night she wakes up sneezing, and I wake up gagging. Claritan gives her a rash and it gives me fuck all. Maybe if we went back to drinking gin we'd develop an immunity, but I'd be in jail and divorced.

Went last night to have the nopalitos con chile rojo, adding carne con chile. Again, fantastic. Chinito Gordo is easily my favorite new Mexican place.
