On a side note, the radiologist noted that my appendix was not present. Funny thing is, I've never had an appendectomy. They estimate 1/100,000 people arent born with one.

One less thing to worry about right? ;)

On a side note, my appendix burst when I was like 13 and had to be rushed to the hospital.

That's how I got rid of mine ..... followed by a secondary infection which was a fucking boatload of fun. I'd rather have been born without one.

One more test tomorrow then a week from tomorrow we have surgery-most likely followed up by radiation.
Well, my wife had her mastectomy today. Doctor called me at the end and said that all tissue margins and her lymph node samples all turned up NEGATIVE for cancer. I'm so very thankful.

She's resting and hurting but we're both just joyful at the news. Next is probably going to be some radiation treatments but so far, prognosis is good.

Thank God.

Met with the Surgical Oncologist today. Nothing earth shattering, just giving me the feedback for what the surgery will entail. Wedge Resection around the area where the tumor was found. Surgery scheduled for the the 2nd, a few days in the hospital before a month off my feet resting. Never great to have part of your organs taken out (even if it's a small part) and the C word sucks, but pretty good outlook, provided nothing is lurking elsewhere that was missed. I am meeting with a NET (the particular cancer I have) specialist from City of Hope on Monday, mainly to see if the plan of action in place is good long-term. 39 and no Bruin National Championships, since Junior High, isn't quite what I'm ready to deal with :D

Went to City of Hope for a second opinion, I'm glad I did. The specialist for my type of cancer felt like the surgery scheduled was overkill. One day, I'll most likely need major stomach surgery. For now,he believes treatment should be a resection done through an endoscopy (my third in 5 weeks). That should be all that's needed, along with regular monitoring. Appointment with the GI oncologist is in two weeks and we will go from there. It's a bit nerve wrecking to postpone surgery on active cancer but it's City of Hope, gotta believe they know cancer.

Hang in there, Bug. Endoscopy is a preferable alternative to other avenues of resection. I'll be thinking of you as I schedule my annual cystoscopy. Having an endoscope shoved into any orifice is just a boatload of fun ain't it?!?!

Small update - Had a appointment with City of Hope and a specialist in NET cancer. He told me that it was overkill to do the surgery right now. Also was more worried about being on a PPI for acid reflux than the cancer. So he scheduled his own endoscopy for me. Had that done this week, found another polylp and found evidence of the initial cancer spot (that should have been removed right away in my first endoscopy). Second polyp came back as just that, a mass of cells. So at this point, it looks like we are just in observe and remove mode going forward. I'll never be considered "cancer free", I'll just be classified as NED (no evidence of disease). Which sucks, but I really have no visible symptoms, so I can't complain too much. It's going to be something I deal with until I die. Which is unlikely to happen from this cancer. Appreciate all of the kind words. Sucks that UCLA lost, but grateful for other things in my life. Hard to really keep me down for too long!

Cancer Sucks, but not today. Clean cysto! Whatever surplus good fortune comes to me I give to CarcassDragger, Bug, and Big Sky.

... and to the unfortunate young gals who prep my grizzled cock for optical bucatini insertion:

"What do you have planned for the rest of your day, Sir?"

"You mean after your boss shoves razor wire down my cock?"

"Tee hee .... I guess ...."

"Well, if it's good news we're gonna have lunch and a glass of wine or four, if it's bad news it'll be pretty much the same thing."

"Mmmm kay."

Always remember: Cancer is infinitely harder on loved ones than it is on the one with cancer; good news comes in stealthy increments that change your life in dramatic proportions.

Good luck to everyone, and count your blessings.

Been a while since I've checked this page, bug, hope you can avoid surgery, CD, happy for you and your wife, hope her recovery goes well. Dove, glad your pecker is clear.

Thanks bug for mentioning the ppi concerns, I've been on them since my Whipple in June. One more thing to keep track of now, I had no idea there were long term issues.

Catching up today at my CT. Second one since I finished chemo.

Best wishes to you all!!!

I've been on PPIs for going on 14 years due to Barrett's esophagus which can lead to esophageal cancer if not monitored (upper GI every few years) and controlled. Recently my gastroenterologist cut me way back, previous Dr. who moved away had me on 40 MG twice a day - I am down to 20MG once a day. New doc seems to be more worried about any long term side effects.

Thanks for the info UAE, think I'm on 40 once a day, it's to prevent erosion of the new connections and prevent ulcers in my jejunum since I don't have a duodenum or pyloric sphincter anymore.

The other side of the coin - my aunt didn't take her PPIs for her Barrett's due to the cost and she ended up having a huge part of her esophagus and upper stomach removed due to cancer. It's always a balance.

Hope you can avoid that. My grandma had stomach cancer and a big surgery, took a long time for her to be able to eat a normal amount. Had issues with dumping syndrome also. Was not fun, but she barreled through it. She gave up her basketball season tickets at that time, she was almost 90. What a trooper

First time I've looked at this thread. Thought it was a sign from above that it was at the top of the discussion board. Today is the 10 year anniversary of my best friend passing away from cancer at 40, leaving behind a wife and 6 year old son.

Cancer runs in my family but I've been fortunate so far. Have had polyps during my last two colonoscopies so I'm now on the 3 year plan. So much fun. Rather have that done than what the alternative could be.

Good luck to all!

I’ve been on it longer than that. Just looked at how to ween myself off. But the side effects even long term seem to be minimal.

Just a point of information: my tumors are in my bladder and the urethra is the access route to scope, resect, and treat them. I'm immensely fortunate to have this pathway even though it's not the sort of thing any guy enjoys. If there is such thing as cock cancer I sure don't want it.

PPIs: I've heard they can be a bitch to get off of, and it seems they are over-prescribed, almost automatically, and I have no idea why.

Not sure if any of you lucky folks have had genetic counseling for your cancer stuffs, they are finding new stuff out all the time and things they weren't testing for 5 years ago, if they find it out now, can change the types of therapy you are eligible for and if it is hereditary, can open you and your family up to screening that isn't available to the general public and at younger ages so they can find it earlier and give them a better chance at a good outcome.

My mom and uncle and grandma all had genetic testing done 10 to 20 years ago, wasn't till my cousin and I had pancreas cancer that they were checking for and found the mutated gene that makes us more likely to get cancer. Opened up genetic counseling for the whole family, my mom's cousins included, and made imaging and blood tests and all sorts of stuff available for early detection. I'm still here because my cousin had it done. Bless his soul.

Best wishes to you all!! Thanks for the thoughts, prayers, positive energy shared cause of this thread!! It's great.

Read the CT report, all of the little spots on my liver are unchanged, nothing new below the diaphragm, one new small 3.5 mm nodule on my lung that they want to look at again in a couple months. Haven't talked to the oncologist yet, so who knows. I've had family members with these nodules in the past, none of them have been cancer so fingers crossed.

Had my 4th endoscopy, this year, at the beginning of May. They cleared out the tumor and the last sample show no evidence of the disease. Waiting for my doctor's appointment in a couple of weeks to hear it from his mouth and to find out the plan of action going forward. But as of now, Im unofficially classified as NED-No Evidence of the disease.

Here is a glimpse into the type of cancer I have. The article doesnt talk much about it, just that they eventually found out it was that type of cancer.
https://people.com/health/physical-ther ... onus-life/

Steve Jobs and Aretha Franklin died of the same type of cancer. Both of these people had it in the pancreas, one of the worst places to get this or any type of cancer. Irrfan Khan also died of a NET, I think his was a bowel NET.

Just grateful to be alive and seemingly healthy, for now.

Good news from Bug!

My wife had her 14th radiation dose today so we are at 14 down 16 to go. She's truly a badass and taking it like a champ.

I guess radiation therapy has come a long way. It's much more targeted now than it used to be. So far, she's just a bit tired, which they predicted.

Thank God I have good insurance. I can't imagine doing this and having to sweat coverage or astronomical bills.

Guys, I think your karma is helping. Let's keep Bug, U P and Dove in our thoughts. You guys are awesome and thanks.

My old car died, and it needs a new engine. I am in the process of buying a new car but have to wait for my Subaru Legacy to arrive. In the meantime my knee became injured and I have to walk in pain. When they took the x-ray they found calcification of the knee and a 4 cm bone growth and liquid buildup in my knee. They are concerned that I may have osteosarcoma and will have an MRI in a few weeks to learn more. Meanwhile I have to walk to get picked up for work. And my job entails a lot of walking. I have to work in pain for now.

That really sucks, but it might have been fortunate you injured your knee so they were able to x-ray it and find the growth.
