As with a lot of active military too, and college students that's about the age mental healthy issues start. My son was lucky and survived his SBC attempt, although has some physical issues being shot, and constantly dealing with mental health issues. But has a job and a long time girlfriend.

Fifty percent of mental illness begins by age 14, and three-quarters begins by age 24.

I have mentioned previously that my family knows his second wife Anne (now widow). She and her first husband were our neighbors in an apartment complex when we moved to Phoenix in 1970 and her family and our family have remained in touch all these years. Relationships were strained during the Trump/COVID years however as they were anti-masker/anti-vaxxers originally, but then they got COVID. He did push back on Trump once or twice.

Saw one news report that he died in an airport enroute. My son at Mark Kelly's office said they were told he died on the plane.
His wife was actually a flight nurse at one time.

She told my mom once that he wanted to die while still in office, thinking he'd get some kind of state funeral/honors. Mission accomplished I guess.

EDIT: Changed tweet. That's Anne behind him. My mom just talked to her. He passed away in his sleep on the flight from LAX to Seattle (on their way back to Alaska)

It stands for Graphics Interchange Format. It's a hard G, Chi is correct.

I was working in IT when the internet was created just for universities and the DOD based out of Bitnet. My original Bitnet email was da012@calpoly.

Since day 1, it has been pronounced JIF even though we know what it stood for.

Now get off my lawn. I have some ASCII messages I need to combine using VI then convert to binary. Took about 5 minutes just to download and convert one Pr0n image off usenet.

And we thought it was fantastic.

Took about a minute just to render a JPG image to view it since JPGs are compressed but much easier to download.

2400 was blazing fast! When I was a student at the UA it was 300 bps using an acoustic coupler, but at the time as a very poor college student could not afford the $50 a month to rent a dumb terminal with modem

This is true life, the actual computer room at the UA.

And this was major progress when we had to punch our own Hollerith cards.

And you always drew a diagonal line across the top in case you dropped the box.

Been in that computer room many times Merk, usually late at night waiting for a grad student to rip my output off the line printer. I took Fortran 77 on that VAX system around the time RotN's was being filmed.

FORTRAN was my first language! Really liked how you didn't have to declare variables like you did in COBOL.

But then again, it made it hard for debugging.

Pascal was probably my favorite language, and the only one I know of that wasn't an acronym.

Shane Keith Warne (13 September 1969 – 4 March 2022) was an Australian cricketer. That's why I posted the article link. The hyperbole has been extremely overbearing here for the last week.

And Warne was absolutely one of the all time greatest Cricketers, definitely THE greatest spin bowler if not the greatest of all bowlers, and REALLY popular in India as well as Australia, but he wasn't Mahatma Gandhi for crying out loud.

That '63 team with Davis, Roseboro, Frank Howard, Maury Wills plus Koufax and Drysdale swept the Yankees in the WS.

Loved the Koufax line for that year - 25 wins, 1.88 ERA, 20 CG's, 11 Shutouts, 311 IP's and 306 SO's.

No one has had more than 3 complete games since 2018 in MLB.

Who knows, probably would have extended Koufax' career in today's game.

I miss the golden days of NFL football. No gloves on receivers back then since they QBs didn't have bullet arms, and Billy Kilmer couldn't even throw a perfect spiral. Kind of lost interest in the sport when Steve Young took over for Joe Montana.
