I have a niece in medical school right now and she did the whole rotc thing and will be doing her residency in a medical hospital. I've never asked but I'm sure she's getting tuition assistance from the military

I know it's been a long time since I was in the USAF, and had 0 chance for being in combat, but the military back then was a good employment opportunity for slackers. Not that it was an easy life, the lifers near retirement seemed 10 years older than they were.

My son in law is a lifer in the Navy, not a slacker, but he certainly does more than his share in his office. Just can't get enough people in, and he has a good assignment in Japan.
