News Talk vs Sports Talk?

Post by CalStateTempe »

I have a new vehicle and radio music just gets redundant and boring, so I've expanded to flipping to other FM/AM channels.

Leading me to the question:

Which is more likely to kill brain cells - News Talk vs Sports Talk?

I avoid hearing people talk on the radio.

Why is it that in every city every station every weekday morning has chatty DJs? I just want music.

Cyclical news of any sort is brain-killing. Much prefer NPR-style formats for any content. I always listen to KTAR sports when driving and hearing the same news 3/4 times over a 2/3 hour period is mind numbing.

News or news talk? News talk is just a stream of partisan talking points that allow you to safely ensconse yourself in opinions that match your own. News allows you to be bombarded with sensationalistic depiction of how awful our world is.

The true answer is to create a mix CD of early-mid 90's rap. A starting point:

Rump shaker
Nuthin but a G thang
Let me clear my throat
Just a friend
Back to the hotel
Players club
Flava in ya ear
Don't sweat the technique

I'm going to have to go with sports talk.

At least with new talk, there is NPR, which is good for long commutes and interesting at times.

Sports talk...wow, its just soundbite after sound bite after manufactured sports soap opera drama after drama.

Yea, that's where I was going with that. :D

I listen to NPR most often. I have the sports talk stations on speed dial and run through them on occasion seeing if they have an interview on, otherwise I just keep going. I occasionally listen to music, but rarely.

The DP show and maybe SVP are the only things worth listening to on radio...

News talk kills the brain cells, but I'm having trouble voting on this poll because "morning radio talk" isn't a separate category. It exists for both news talk and sports talk.

I will give a yes to SVP

I will give a yes to DP Show only when Dan is doing the majority of the talking. Not when then other guys in studio or talking or when he is interviewing the same people every week or every other week (Eisen, Reggie Miller, Neuheisel, etc....)

I also really like the Tony Kornheiser show b/c it mixes in current events y pop culture.
