PDX has been (nearly) closed to aircraft all day. The area is an ice rink. Only a handful of flights in and out. With SEA also being down most of the day, the Alaska Airlines system will be a mess for a few days. It was fun walking/sliding to the grocery store on ice today, but I’m ready to head back to TUS.

Things weren't that bad in Maine. The wind was the worst part. The rain stopped around 8 pm and then started getting colder. I went to work at 52 degrees and left for home at 24 degrees. It will get down to about 12 on Saturday. It was extremely windy but the roads were dry. And the rain and temperature washed away almost all the snow. I did have to go to work during a power outage though. We are really lucky and missed the brunt of this storm.

I have been living in the central coast of Cali since 1987. Not once have they closed schools due to weather.

Until now.

I live in northern Santa Barbara County, and Montecito is south county. Longhorned's old stomping grounds if memory serves.

It has been incredibly mild in Augusta Mane until late last week. We received 8 inches of snow. Tonight we are going to get 6-10 inches of snow. Wednesday night we are getting 5-8 inches of snow followed by 1/2 inch of rain Thursday. 24 inches of snow in one week. That's more than we received up to last week.

Glad I have my Subaru.

Pretty sure I got about 2 inches of snow overnight here on the NW side. Anything in the sun is melted but in the shade it's pretty thick still.

That's nuts. The San Fernando valley itself might get snow from what my friends are saying.

Probably won't be open for long. Once they close the Grapevine all the N/S freeway traffic in CA gets routed to the 101, which can't handle it.

Close to me, the shortcut to Santa Barbara.

The big thing is you are not in the ICU now. My thoughts are on your recovery.

Even an hour in ICU is too long. A night is eternity. Get better and get back to it.

Another rainy (and chilly) weekend here in Southern California. We're used to December/January winter rains but this has extended into something different, which Arizona is receiving too.

When I was mentioning how lush the vegetation had become along my downtown walks, a coworker of mine who has lived in the county for 25 years was saying he'd never seen the hillsides and ravines of his commute so green. He mentioned to me that what's causing this continuing weather across typically dryer California and Arizona is the eruption of an undersea volcano near Tonga last year. This heated eruption, he said, lifted enormous amounts of steam into the Pacific's atmosphere, which is sourcing our ongoing rains. I haven't taken the time to research this, other than to find a few headlines dating the eruption at January 15, 2022.

Crazy thing is my buddy says the experts aren't sure how long this goes on.

That's interesting about the Tonga volcano.

Thanks guys appreciate it. Never spent 1 sec here until now, they wouldn't let me go. Add that game on top not fun.

Time to put the bottle down though. Think my body is saying slow down. 9 days with hopefully just 1 day left. My anxiety of staring at the walls is going to do me in :?

I know there a pancreas thread somewhere here so I don't derail (mine is liver created). Back to you weekly weather!

I had about 3 inches when I woke up this morning at 645 on the NW side. This is definitely the most snow we've had in at least 30 years in Tucson.

I was a young kid back in 1971 but on December 8th of that year we received 6.8 inches. Seemed like 5 feet to a kid who had never really seen any snow
