Always kept an eye out on his career for obvious reasons, but it was time.

Take note Kobe.

Kobe, even with his body right now, is still in 100x better shape than Nash

Too bad he never got his ring. And too bad he had to waste his final years with the Lakers

It makes up for winning two undeserved MVP awards

As of Monday, Kobe played in 35 of 67 games this year and still leads the team in shot attempts

By undeserved you mean absolutely without a doubt deserved right? I assume this is some kind of opposite day.

I have yet to hear a reasoned and unbiased, statistically-backed up rationale that diminishes Nash's claim to either MVP, but specifically his 05-06 MVP, won because he picked up the unenviable task of keeping the Suns relevant amidst extreme roster turnover, and devastating injuries.

04-05 Western Conference Finals Roster

Nash
Richardson, Jackson
Johnson
Marion
Amare, Hunter

Yes, tons of talent, but only one All-Star appearance twixt the lot of them, beyond Nash, yet they won 62 games and led the league in Offense. Much of the talent was sub-25, most were new to each other, so it took Nash and his vision to make it work. And before you say it was the talent:

05-06 Western Conference Finals Roster

Nash, House
Bell, Barbosa
Jones, .... /\
Marion, T.Thomas
Diaw, .... \/

Injured: Amare, K.Thomas
Gone: Johnson, Jackson, Richardson, Hunter

House was a 2nd-round journeyman chucker
Bell was an undrafted journeyman hustlebum
Barbosa a raw 20 year old guard who couldn't play PG
Jones was a 2nd-round unknown off limited PT with Pacers
Diaw was 1st-round unknown off limits PT as backup PG
Thomas was waived twice prior in same year before signing

That team got to Game 6 of a tightly contested Western Conference Finals.

You're telling me Kobe winning fewer games while scoring 35 points per on 30 shots per is more worthy?

Get the fuck outta here.

In 05-06 Kobe averaged 35 PPG on 27 FGA, shooting a eFG% of 56% and had a 1.3/1 A/TO ratio.

This is hyped as the year Kobe should have won his. I'll argue the next year was his best year.

In 06-07 Kobe averaged 32 ppg on 22 FGA, shooting a eFG% of 58% and had a 1.5/1 A/TO ratio.

In the NBA, you generally win after you deserved it. When Kobe when his, CP3 should have won. When Nash won his two, Kobe should have won one and AI should have won the other. But AI was in the midst of his "practice" years and Kobe was coming off the whole rape allegations. It is what it is, but it's pretty incredulous that Nash has as many as Kobe and Shaq combined.

7th seeds don't win MVPs

The main problem with Nash's 2nd MVP is people look at it from 2015 and not 2005

This fails to even come close to what I asked for.

Shaq was runner up in 2004-05
Kobe was runner up in 2005-06

Look at teams, look at stats, look at adversity and accomplishments and tell me with proof not bias that Kobe deserved the 2005-06 MVP.

Nash took the team I mentioned above, a team full of also-rans, to 54 wins.

House was on his 5th team in 5 years
Bell was on his 4th team in 6 years
Tim Thomas was on his 4th team in 2 years
Jones averaged like 8 mpg his first 2 seasons
Diaw averaged 11 mpg his first 2 seasons
Barbosa averaged 13 mpg his first 2 seasons
Kurt Thomas played less than half the total games
Amare played fewer than 5 games

And this team won 54 games.

This is the type of commentary that idiots spout to make themselves appear intelligent and insightful. I've taken you for many things, but an idiot was not one of them, until now.

Nash winning two MVPs is not incredulous at all, except to Kobe apologists. AI was never the best player in the NBA.

Looks like Steve is going to start his coaching career in Golden State as a consultant. Should be a win/win for all involved.
Sources told ESPN.com that Nash, who was not planning to go into coaching after formally announcing his retirement in March, has been lobbied aggressively by Warriors coach Steve Kerr and team president Rick Welts to spend a few days per month with the team to work on skills with individual players.

:P Not picking sides here, I was never one who thought Kobe was "robbed," but I can see the argument that Nash was outstanding on one end of the floor and arguably a liability on the other end, defense. That 05-06 suns team wasnt loaded, but neither were the lakers. I think the Suns second best player, Marion, was better than the Lakers second best, Odom. The Lakers third best player that year was who, Smush Parker? Kwame Brown started? That team didnt have much. Suns may not have been huge on paper, but they had a team full of guys with established roles. Yes, Nash made that all possible and yes, Kobe gets some blame for not being like Nash and having that level of ability to make others around him better. Then again, two entirely different styles of player and two different positions.
