When he was being scouted one of the knocks on him was "doesn't love football".

That's just perfect Raiders. They have the #4 pick and all sorts of needs. So do they take what is considered by many to be the best player in the draft who plays a premium position and who has said he wants to play in Oakland, or do they take a 6'0" WR as they transition to a power running game offense under a very inexperienced QB?

Well, you can guess which way they went, cause they're the Raiders.

Too early for the Bears to upgrade their RB spot?

Why, because no trades? If so, disagree. Maybe not enough guys worth trading up for.

So, I watch NFL Network for the draft up until Deion does the interviews y then change to ESPN. It seems like Berman has toned it down some this year y let the rest of the crew run with it a bit more. Also, Louis Riddick is very good on set.

I love it when all hell breaks lose and Kiper is stunned. Trades make it more interesting due to the intrigue of whom a team is targeting.

I like it better when a pick is made that the "experts" did not have that high y then listening to their reactions such as the Shaq Thompson pick. That is what I like to hear.

Welcome Melvin Gordon to the Bolts

Well, you can guess which way they went, cause they're the Raiders.
So to continue with the shit talking of the Raiders they managed with the third pick of the second round to take someone I've never heard of in defensive end Mario Edwards Jr. They worry about his effort (great) and in the how he fits in section they mention...

How he fits: Edwards brings a lot of versatility to the table with the ability to line up on the edge, as well as reduce inside in first-year defensive coordinator Ken Norton's 4-3 scheme. He will be called upon to help bolster a defensive line that struggled slowing the run and getting after the quarterback last year.

Gee, if only there was a super talented guy we could've found to do just that at, say, pick #4 (see: Leonard Williams). But no, we needed a 6'0" tall WR and couldn't find a WR later in the draft (Dorial Green Beckham, a top 10 talent if you can keep his head screwed on straight, was still available at 35 and I think would be a better fit for our offense with his size at 6'5" 235 as we don't have a WR1).

15/64 drafts in the first rounds were Pac 12 guys. 11 on defense.

Make that 25/99 in the first 3 rounds from the Pac 12. 20 for the sec.

Another interesting fact, Arizona is anticipated to have no one drafted this year...but Arizona has the most wins in college football the last 3 years with the fewest draft picks. Hill, Baucus, Gurrola, Tevis, Bondurant and Pettinato are all anticipated to be undrafted free agents. If so we'll have won 26 games in 3 years with only 3 draft picks.

There will be a legit competition that I expect Foles to win easily.

Rams reached for literally every pick so far. It's like they overnight forgot how to assemble a team through the draft.

Some draft grades. Raiders (unsurprisingly) come in with the second lowest grade at C-

Well then...
Many people have wondered if the St. Louis Rams are going to become (again) the Los Angeles Rams, and there has been a lot of smoke to that potential fire.

The NFL — inadvertantly, perhaps — has tossed a little gas on this chatter.

Would have been wasting a draft pick. His agent told all the teams not to bother drafting him after the 3rd round or they would refuse to sign and re-enter the draft next year.

I'd do it anyways. Analysis I've heard of the Raiders three 7th round picks are "three throwaway picks."

So let's throw one away on La'el. He was supposedly the 18 best prospect so (assuming he isn't arrested for murder) I'll give him the contract this year's 18th pick gets starting this year.

No chance he turns that down just to get drafted at #18 next year, get the same contract but lose a year of playtime for nothing. And I just spent a 7th to get the 18th best player in the draft.

Dude! The Cowboys signed Lael for about $500K a year for three years?
Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun had Collins' exact contract numbers as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys: $1.599 million overall over three years, with a $21,000 signing bonus and base salaries of $435,000, $526,750 and $616,750. Or, about one-seventh of what he likely would have made in his first contract had police not sought him for questioning right before the draft.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutd ... 09069.html

We'll see if it works out in the end but that's an amazing piece of business. I can't believe more teams weren't trying to get in on that.
