Reminds me of Hank Gathers. This is really sad. Prognosis isn't good.

Intubation means the patient can't breath on their own. So, a ventilator is breathing for them. If he doesn't pull out of this, his organs will start failing. I hope this twitter is true and that Hamlin is improving. Yet, he is still in critical condition.

You don’t know that. The hospital hasn’t said anything, and for good reason.

Just keep Hamlin and his family in your thoughts or prayers. The doctors or his representatives will tell us his prognosis soon enough.

Praying for Hamlin and his family.

Like someone mentioned it reminds me of the Hank Gathers LMU situation, only on prime time TV.

Tweet from a cardiologist last night (Never successful sharing tweets here!):
Bernard Ashby MD, MPP, FACC @BAshbyMD
10h
The video of Damar Hamlin from a cardiologist’s perspective resembled commotio cordis - a phenomenon that occurs when a sudden blunt impact to the chest causes cardiac arrest.

Timely defibrillation is life saving & prevents anoxic brain injury. I pray an AED was near.
Hamlin did receive both AED & CPR on a very timely basis!! In fact, it was the observation of these being administered by the medics that was so upsetting to the players!!!

Truly, no one, except maybe his attending physicians, knows for sure what his prognosis is now.

The dumbass speculation is rampant!!! A bunch of anti-CTE has been cited as the issue!! QANON wackos are citing COVID vaccine as the cause!!!

In reading what had happened and the action taken it was said his vitals being normal is from the administered drugs. It was said they will slowly awaken him and that the real test will be for apoxia and to see if there is any brain damage. One Dr says 9 minutes of CPR is a long time and that the brain often suffers damage after 3 minutes.

This is very sad and while it is an almost unprecedented event, it makes you wonder why we play and cheer on such a sport. I sure hope he pulls through this

I think it’s a struggle for a lot of people to balance how entertaining the sport is versus the damage we know the players are doing to their bodies. But in this case it looks like it was such a fluke that I’m not sure I can lump this in with concussions/CTE, paralysis, and the other awful stuff we see. The hit was nothing out of the ordinary. We saw the same types of plays hundreds of times just this weekend. In fact, if this is a case where he was put into cardiac arrest by the hit at exactly the wrong time during his regular heart rhythm, it’s a situation you would see far more in youth hockey or little league baseball. Not sure how it could have been prevented, so I’m not sure it should be lumped in with the rest of the violent injuries we see in this sport.

He asked the doctors “Did we win?”

I’m so damn happy I could cry.

He's communicating through writing at present. Still on a ventilator but looks like he will make a full recovery. Great news indeed
