Wow that is a tough break. Do we know if he had been vaccinated and if so would they have given him any options past withdrawing

He was in the protocol due to contact tracing. He was involved in daily testing. I haven't seen anything about his vaccination status.

I would assume he wasn’t vaxed since he had previously had COVID but I am guessing. No excuse for not getting it but I am still wondering if he had received the vaccine would he have been able to continue? I think that would be an important message to the athletes to get the vaccine

You aren't subject to the weekly tests on the PGA tour if you are vaccinated.

I just read that only about 50% of tour members are vaxxed.

I have zero sympathy for anyone choosing not to get vaccinated. You just cost yourself a shitload of money simply because you are an idiot.

Good. Maybe it will smarten people up.... but probably not.

His douchebaggery could cost him money now.

Would you want to supply him with equipment now? I’d literally run away from sponsoring that asshole. Last thing I need as a marketer is this fuckstick blaming my products for his shitty play.

I especially the way Cobra is bending over backwards to customize a club for him.

Side note: I’ve met the ol’ boy who started Cobra a few times. He’s Australian and a helluva good geezer.

He sold to Wilson and made bank.

I would think it will be easier for the Euro golfers to flip tours. They get guaranteed money and they get half the events on their continent.

How anyone would want to get in bed with the Saudi’s is beyond me. Like Phil said, they are scary mo fo’s.

Have to wonder how the euro Ryder Cup team will be impacted? Of course guys like Westwood, Casey and Sergio are all mid 40’s and probably nearing the end of their Ryder cup years

I am curious now what the PGA tour does given the names who are playing in the first LIV event. Are they going to make an example of DJ?

While I think golfers should have the ability to choose where they play, backing the Saudi run tour is just something wrong.

I get the older golfers taking the huge money they will be getting as a sign
On but supporting or aligning with that group is really bad.

We as fans I guess now have a choice to watch or not and for me it’s a huge not.

Going to be interesting to see what the US Open does. Will they cut the legs out from under the PGA tour? Tough spot, as it is the “Open” and is not a tour event

I am not so sure of that. The Open takes players from as many as 10 international tours so you could just add the LIV tour to that list.

This is a hard one because our government has been in bed with the Saudi’s for a long time. We have turned our head against their abuses by buying their oil and supporting them generally. Now we make these golfers targets for their choice to play on that tour backed by oil money that we have been buying for years?

This going to get very interesting going forward. You will see more players migrate over I think. The fact these players can’t control their NIL on the PGA tour seems to be the biggest issue. The PGA tour has a real battle going forward I think

This is like if Patrick Mahomes decided to play for the XFL because someone threw a shitload of money at him.

It ain’t the same competition.

3 days of golf, guaranteed money, no pro am (meaning 5 days of golf), control their own NIL, team money as well. I think there will be more defections and certainly the young guys coming up might go for this tour instead of having to grind through Q school or the Korn Ferry tour.

Of course can that tour sustain this over several years. No TV sponsors and at some point these hosting cities will want a charitable part of the pie. I did read where they had a draft party and that served as a sort of pro am where you could buy tickets to mingle with the players and throw back a drink.

Also do we know if these golf courses hosting LIV tourney's will get blacklisted by the PGA?

I have to admit this is getting quite interesting. Almost like our modern day Curt Flood/anti-trust mini series.

Yeah I smell an anti-trust lawsuit. IANAL so I have no idea if it will be successful. Maybe they will win and get 3 dollars like Trump's USFL suit LOL

Brooks Koepka and Abraham Ancer are the latest defectors.

Ancer surprised me a little. He is certainly an up and comer. Most of the others seem to be late in their career(Mickelson, Garcia) or have really fallen off (Fowler, Koepka).

With only 48 spots in their fields at some point they are going to have to develop a method to determine their top 48. With a much more limited schedule, it will be easy for those top 48 to play each event and grab the guaranteed money.

I see why many are calling thus nothing more than an exhibition tour. You get paid no matter what for showing up. No grinding or having to work to keep your playing privileges.

If they expand the fields the money at the bottom will be reduced. I know the PGA commissioner is holding a conference today with the player members on what they are going to do to compete with LIV

Agreed except it seems like more and more of the top players are moving. Granted it’s only about 3 or 4 of the top 30 in the world but more than many had thought might move.

I wonder how this will play out. Since they only play 3 rounds they can’t compute into the world golf rankings which the majors use for invitations to their event.

Also the Ryder Cup team is losing about 25% (so far) of its once dominate team and one might think the LIV tour will put on a similar event.

^^^^^ I figured something like this would happen.

LIV Tour is strictly a cash grab, here's hoping it's a short-lived thing just used for some leverage by the players against the tour and that's the end of it.
