Theyve got some size. But no where close to looking strong. Alford as point guard is going to be a real prob for them on the defensive end esp.

They've been coasting in both offense and defense so far. Need to play a real team to get a better feel but they've looked better than pedestrian

We need UCLA to be better than anticipated. For that matter, we need the same from all the teams in the Pac 12.

Go Cats!!

Well if you say that's what it is then that must be what it is. In the one half of basketball in their first two games that I've watched they look very pedestrian, very much like a team appropriately ranked (see:fringe top 25).

While the schedule is crap, under Howland, these games would be close at halftime before we pull out an 11 point win

Agreed. Alford is clearly the 2nd best coach in UCLA history. Didn't take him long!

Pre-game layup drill and broadcast standup so I'm guessing 20 minutes before tip.

If the parents of recruits are publicly calling out your attendance, your fans have failed you in a big way.

I didn't even read who it was from. That's even more hilarious now.

Being called out by a recruits parent. Hilarious. However, we know this is common unless Arizona or USC is in town. No news here.

Oklahoma was favored so I'm not surprised they lost, but having to play UNC next is probably the last thing they wanted.

Good lord. Coach's son takes the most shots on the team, hits 30%, has 6 turnovers, can't make a 3pt shot, and his team loses by 20. Seems like a healthy situation.

going to be a problem going forward as any other player would have been taken off the court. This was the first game where it really showed. Norman Powell already looked fed up

I'd worry about him only being a sophomore and what that means for recruits over the next two years. Nobody wanted to play with Pete Maravich. Alford's shooting volume may only be one third of Pistol Pete's, but his floor time is the same and his talent and skill level is only one eleventh.

So beginning this season, UCLA is going to lose to UK three straight years (and that doesn't include any possible tourney meetings). How exactly is this supposed to benefit UCLA? Does getting rolled on national TV (three times!) make tomorrow's 5 stars gain interest in playing for Alford?

The beatdowns UA received from UNC were really brutal from every standpoint. UA had to cancel the series when Miller took over.

And now UK will be getting an inroad into LA for recruiting?

Alford must be assuming he'll be able to compete, otherwise this series doesn't make a lot of sense. I don't think any coach in year 2 should be scheduling Kentucky, especially considering UCLA's current struggles against ranked teams.

My personal theory is that he's doing this high risk high reward series in order to better compete with Miller. We all know Arizona and Kentucky won't be scheduling any games against each other, so what better way to compete with Arizona than to take down the top team in the country? Even if UCLA gets the type of beatings we got against UNC, it's not like his job is in any danger.
