There simply has to be a ton of jokes about being in the Cal-zone when Kentucky's losing and you're next to their bench and Cal's ranting.

If there's anybody in your world that you want hurt or dead, just run them into Kessler.

Wonder if it was another Knoxville home job that got the Gators so upset?

Jay Johnson took the UofA to two College World Series and most UofA fans were pissed when he left. If LSU played the Cats this year in Tucson, he Johnson would probably be booed loudly.. The same thing happened to Larry Smith after he left for USC. It's just how people react when a really good coach leaves. The only problem I have is how long before Beard leaves Texas for another job? His track record speaks for itself.

I get your point, but did you see the video of how Texas Tech fans reacted to the Texas team bus? Unhinged…

Arizona fans anger is about Jay Johnson poaching our players after making what was essentially a lateral move. But you won’t see us chasing the LSU team bus screaming epithets, middle fingers aimed at the occupants. Beard took a team with very little history to the championship game and then left for a much better job. TTech fans look petty and stupid for their reaction to Beard returning.

I hate when a coach leaves but stays in the same conference. Lucky for them, Texas Tech will only have to deal with that for a few more years until Texas bolts for the SEC. :D

I'm still bitter about Larry Smith going to U$C. I know his dream was a Rose Bowl, but so was ours and he had us on the cusp. If he had gone to Michigan or TOSU, no problem. Yeah, he won one and lost one, but if he had gone to one Rose Bowl at UofA, they would have carved his face into the Catalinas, and he'd never pay for another drink or meal the rest of his life.

I hate this old wound. As I said a long time ago, when that happened my mother (who I converted to a Wildcat mega fan) who lived in LA wrote a scathing note to the LA times stating how much of a traitor he was and how he hurt all of Wildcat nation. In only the type of prose a Mother could write.

She has since passed (like my father) and when we sold the house and I was throwing out or keeping 60 years of "stuff" I came upon that letter and it made me both laugh and cry.

I just had all of the stuff shipped to me back here in CT so when I thaw out and open the container I'm going to find that letter and post it on this message board. More for me than you guys btw...

My sister went to U$C at the time (she was even in the marching band) and my parents had moved to LA so I think that made it sting even more for me.

So did mine. Funny story is that is indirectly how I got to UofA. My Dad who went to Stanford took my sister to Tucson for a visit when she was looking at schools and while it wasn't to her liking (a whole different story) my Dad fell in love with the place and wanted me to go there, even after I told him I was all set to attend UCLA which was right around the corner.

He said "just go down there for a few days and make sure". Once I set foot on campus the rest is history. :D

I almost went to UCLA (also considered CP Pomona) since I could have swung in-state tuition but I got my application in late and then got a tuition waiver to all 3 Arizona schools so decided to stay in AZ.

My sister once said she didn't want to go to some small, podunk school like her brother - she had no clue how big UofA was or that we played sports with USC. My mom ripped her a new one.

Same here. It was just not him leaving on the cusp of the Rose Bowl, it was his telling the press the day before that he was staying, then taking the red eye out to LAX, and most of all, not saying goodbye to his players.

I kinda disagree.

While I expect Jay would be booed by some assholes, he left on reasonably good terms. Its never nice to lose a great coach, but at least Jay didn't fart in everyone's face as he left.

Smith on the other hand, crawled off in the dead of night without even saying "boo" to his players, and within hours of swearing up and down that he was not leaving.

Arizona's win at Illinois might turn out to be the highest rated true non-conf road win this season on the NCAA metric scale - Kentucky's blowout of Kansas in Lawrence being the other.

Al, Illinois just won a tough game at Indiana (good for az) who was previously 13-1 at home to get to 17 wins - im not sure the record with/without Cockburn. hes a beast tho and played against Arizona, there was an important player missing for the Illini that day but i forget who.

I think that 3 losses came without cockburn The two early ones when he was suspended to Marquette and Cinci and then he was out for Maryland.

They lost to Purdue with him.

Curbello was out when we played them,

He might not be that important though. Time will tell.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

This has been a really great game.
