I dont see how Miller would go to Ohio State. While facilities would probably be an upgrade and so many resources would be available it isn't nearly as good of a job or team as Arizona. I also don't see any dominoes falling to where Miller would leave.
Rumor on twitter is that he'll retire after NEXT season. Probably allows him to name his successor. My sphincter will unpucker if that's the case.
Having to directly compete with Archie probably isn't a big draw either. OSU is a good job, but I haven't puckered yet. If/when buzz starts, then I'll pucker. If Matta is naming his successor, I won't.

Now that Archie is at Indiana I have no fears that Miller would ever take a big 10 job.

AZ is a better job than OSU. I'd be more concerned if Roy or Calipari left.

The Archie thing is certainly relevant, especially with how reticent Miller has been to schedule games against teams coached by friends in the past (Ohio St, Kentucky, Xavier).

But we've always heard OSU as being on the shortlist of schools he'd consider. And that list has always been incredibly small.

But if Matta is naming his successor, my money is on Dave Dickerson.

I don't think he will touch either of those jobs.

The next coach in each of those places will be sacrificial lambs of sorts. North Carolina will be looking for an alumni to fill it, much like after Smith left, and Kentucky will hire some young guy moving up, or someone like the Celtics Coach looking to come back to college coaching. Just my thinking.

Unless we screw things up, like not pay him what he is worth, I think we already have him committed long term.

This. The biggest reason I wanted Archie to take that job.

Not worried about Sean taking any job, not even UNC. Also don't see NBA calling for Miller, there's very few Brad Stevens' - Billy Donovan isn't very good.

Not saying he is going to go, but if they try to get him (and why wouldn't they) it will be the best job offer Miller has gotten since our offer

He's not leaving a pre-season number 1 team for Ohio St, we're fine.

I'd be more concerned if this happened in April or May. This timing helps. Looks like more of an issue for Archie. Might've wanted OSU more.

Weird timing. Tells me that something other than your basic review of team performance is behind this. Looks like he wanted to stay.

OSU should go hard at Gregg Marshall.

They should make one prank call to Cuonzo Martin too, just because he'd be in Columbus before he figured out it wasn't real.

FWIW, Javier Morales is also on FB saying Matta was "forced out."

Agreed, the timing is rather suspect unless Gene Smith has a big name in the pipeline.

Unless Stevens is just done with the NBA, it makes no sense. Celts have a good roster, the #1 pick and possibly the brightest long term future in the NBA.

I get why OSU would want those guys, but there are a lost of wish, wish, wish names.

Matta is out because recruiting for '17 was subpar .... which makes little sense seeing as 2018 kids are starting to commit. The next coach is going to have to hustle to bring in top tier kids who aren't already leaning toward one school or another.

Of course Miller will take this job. The foundation has been laid by an increasing level of predecessor. Now, with Urban Meyer leaving, this program is a major player in the college football landscape...what coach in their right mind wouldn't take the Ohio State football job?

The NBA schedule is a grind. College basketball isn't near as bad travel wise, although having to kiss the butt of 16-17 year olds probably makes the travel harder.

This may be true, but Stephens reveres this Celtics job and is seen as one of the very top coaches in the NBA. I'll be surprised if he coaches anywhere the rest of his life, to be completely frank

Besides the unending and unfairness of NCAA rules.

There is a reason why Steve Kerr and others said they will never coach in college.

Gene Smith on the decision: "I felt comfortable after the season when I sat down with Thad that we had a plan. [But] recruiting is a major part of it, and we weren't winning the recruiting battles," Smith said. "As we started talking about it Friday, the flow of the conversation took me to the realization as I said to him, 'This might be the time to make a leadership change,' and he agreed."

I imagine that conversation was more like:

(GS) "What the f*** is going on here?"

(TM) "We missed on a couple, but I like some of the kids we have. I think (random 3 star) will develop, and I feel like we have some juniors who are going to impro..."

(GS) "You think that team from last year is going to improve? We are done here."

(shoots Matta)

(GS to campus PD) "He agreed"

You would think that is a similar type of conversation our AD's have had with RR.

AD: how is recruiting going

RR: we have the best walk-on class in the country, in fact we have 4 of them slated to start this year

AD: oh sh*t, what did I get myself into

He's the most final four starved coach in the country and had the preseason #1 team heading into next season. Am I supposed to believe he'd leave that for a rebuilding project in June after every top 100 prospect has signed already?
