Terrible news for opposing coaches and those that like halftime adjustments.

Trent Johnson just got fired from TCU... they should hire him.

Stanford should reach out to Howland, but instead they'll hire someone like Mark Madsen.

Have you seen the '16 class Howland has coming in? He's not going anywhere.

Johnny Jones should be fired. I wonder if Craig Victor could return here if Jones was fired?

wow, damon sure likes to bounce around. what do you all think of this opportunity? i understand his goal is to be a d1 hc, but is the pacific job a step in the right direction? makes sense that he might not want to stick around JP's sinking ship, but i thought he was in the consideration set to be his successor... whenever that might be... or at least biding some time for a more attractive d1 opportunity to come up.

or maybe he just wants to work closer to home. i dunno. maybe 'furd should give him a call. :D

I think getting away from Memphis at this time for whatever reason is a good thing.

Thought DS went back to Memphis to be closer to his kids. Pacific is farther away than AZ. May be he left us for other reasons then he said?

Of course taking a top Jon is different then being an associate head coach but it still seems odd to me

that's right, @azcat49 ... but i guess pacific is closer to his hometown and maybe the rest of his family?

i also thought pacific was in the NAIA, but they're d3. still, i'm not sure a d3 hc job provides a clearer path forward than being an ac at a good d1 program or hc of a mid-major. d3 athletics is a different world from d1.

I think Pacific in Stockton is in the WCC which is D-1. They have been in the tourney many times and even had the #1 draft pick in Michael Olawakandy (sp)

Stockton is the pits.

UA used to play Pacific in football back before the NCAA loosened the regulations. Pacific was a pay to play mercenary team, teams would pay them to come to their stadiums and get beat down. The Pacific university president tired of tired and dropped the football program.

Still common in sports, more so basketball now. Cal Poly gets beat down every year by some PAC team.

Except the one year they beat UCLA.

It would be a step down for sure. There are only a few jobs CSM might take. UNC, UK, NBA

If Pitt offers Miller over 2 Mil will we be sweating this one out a la Maryland 3 or 4 yrs ago?

Another thought, I know Archie never played at Pitt, or was associated with there, but wouldn't he be a safer approach?

Mean's nothing....It is just Scheer's way of saying he doesn't think Miller is going to Pitt. Which means about as much as me saying I think he is going to Pitt (not the case, just saying).

Scheer isn't the only person saying that Miller isn't going to Pitt, and I would have to say that Scheer should know more than the average message board poster on this subject, don't you think?

Only way that he goes to Pitt is if they offer him like $4+ million a year plus a free house and car and a future guarantee to be the ad at Pitt and he gets guarantees from Alkins, Markkanen and Simmons that they are coming to Pitt with him.

So no, I'm not worried about Pitt

Well, I've been through Pennsylvania and I don't disagree with them. Somebody mentioned baggage and I was curious.

There might be something there in regards to early in his coaching career, like a grad assistant or assistant position that never materialized, but I doubt we'll ever hear about anything like that.

Here's the thing, outside of the fact that he's an alum, what else does Pitt have over UA? Not a damn thing. So if Pitt being his alma mater isn't enough all by itself...

Zero Chance

I don't disagree with you here and my no knowledge guess is he stays right here. The only thing (and I mean only thing) that might have any influence is that bullshit right coast vs left coast thing.

Why would anyone go from the elite program in the PAC-12 to go to a middle ACC program?

Taking on Duke, UNC, UVA, 'Cuse, UL, VT and so on has to brutal.

And that's where the "it's just not somewhere they want to be" thing comes into play. I honestly think the Millers like the west, Tucson, and UA, and I don't see them wanting to throw away the home they've made here for a chance to compete in a better conference at a worse school, in a recruiting region which is much tougher, with a lot more competition, and without the resources to go after the same kids as other teams in the ACC.

If Pitt was smart, they'd throw a ton of money at Archie. There's a guy already in the area, who is recruiting many of the same players, at a worse school conference-wise, and who might be looking to get a chance in a Power-5 conference (oh by the way, one he used to play in). He's young, he's hungry, and he can coach the shit out of a team. He took Dayton to the Elite Eight, lost a bunch of talent, and then took his next team to the Sweet Sixteen despite not playing anyone over 6' 6". Then he went out and won his league this year.

I just wonder if Archie would take it. He's got a lot of talent coming back this year and could put together another A-10 Championship/Elite Eight type run next year and wait to see what jobs open up at that point that would be better than Pitt.
