Jim Boeheim kills a man

Post by Spaceman Spiff »

https://www.syracuse.com/crime/2019/02/ ... i-690.html" target="_blank

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a man walking outside his vehicle on Interstate 690 around midnight, a source has confirmed for Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard.

The man in his 30s had been in a car with four others near Thompson Road in Syracuse when their vehicle crashed for unknown reasons, said a source familiar with the investigation.

The man at some point got out of his vehicle, the source said.

That’s when Boeheim drove by and struck the pedestrian, the source said.

Kills isn’t tantamount to murder.

He was run over not by anyone, but by Jimmy B.

It sucks. Could it have been anyone? Sure. But it didn’t. It happened at the actions of Jim Boeheim. Even if accidental. It happened.

He killed someone and I posted a quote from an article. That's it.

If he gets arrested because news breaks he was high on cocaine, I'll change my title to murdered a man. Until then, he killed someone. That doesn't pass judgment on what degree of fault he bears.

This is an unfortunate incident that calls for no debate, so it's time to start typing all kinds of opinions, and telling Spiff to hide behind a bookshelf.

Simple question. If your mom did the exact same thing as Boeheim would you want a story about it posted her saying she killed a man?

There's a big difference, one of those people is a well known public figure which makes it news while the other one is just a relatively unknown person. Do you know which is which?

Running over and killing a pedestrian certainly can generate a news story. My mom didn't coach Carmelo Anthony, so she'd probably get less news coverage, and it wouldn't get posted on a sports message board.

In terms of saying he killed someone, what else could I have said? If I said he fluffed a man, no one would know what I was talking about. When you hit someone with your car and they die, you killed them. That doesn't necessarily equate to criminal activity.

This is what I see by reading about the incident.

The pedestrian hit a guardrail with his car and his car stopped in the middle of the interstate. He just got out and was walking on the side of the road (around midnight). Boeheim avoided the accident by driving to the side of the road and hit the pedestrian. There was no one at fault, just an unfortunate set of circumstances. Wrong place/wrong time. I feel for the person who was killed, but these things happen.

Contemplating this further, there is a good chance the pedestrian was walking along the edge of the highway next to the guardrail. He couldn't get off the road any further. He sure shouldn't have stayed in the car if it is in the middle of the road. In hindsight let it be a teaching moment that, to be safe, drivers should carry a florescent vest in a vehicle for emergencies, especially when driving at night.

I've been waiting for someone to suggest the victim should have played zone against Boeheim instead of man to man.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-baske ... -incident/

Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim defended his son's apparent sucker punch of an opponent during the Orange's 96-57 win over Florida State in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday. Buddy Boeheim, who is Syracuse's leading scorer, appeared to inflict a cheap shot into the gut of FSU's Wyatt Wilkes during the first half of the game.

The blow caused Wilkes, who is 6-8 and 220 pounds, to double over, but there was no foul called. Jim Boeheim saw it as "inadvertent," he explained to media after the game.

"The kid pushed him twice and he swung around and hit him," Boeheim said. "I think it was inadvertent, but that's OK."

The elder Boeheim added that he was not worried about a potential suspension for his son.

"The kid pushed him twice," Boeheim said. "You can't just let push you around."

One guy threw a punch, while on the court. Another guy threw a punch, while on the court.
