Many other PAC-12 (particularly the academic) schools will not affiliate due to concerns around treatment of women, minorities, and the LGBTQ communities, the strictness and inconsistent application of their code of conduct, partial aversion to scientific based research, and issues around censorship. You can have a fit about it, but that is the reality.
But allowing Colorado as our example, that is not at all how the reality plays out. Colorado, a self-fancying hippie mecca which prides itself every bit as progressively advanced as Berkeley or Eugene, took they first chance they could get to run back to the Big 12 despite any dreaded BYU affiliations.

Colorado’s board of presidents and chancellors took less then 24 hours to cast a unanimous vote to join the Big 12. Without a bit of hesitation paid to BYU.

Promised $32M of shared conference revenue and all those values supposedly held high in Boulder were ignored.

True, but they were also former Big-12 members. More of a reunion than new relationship.

Hopefully we can save 14 million by only having to fly to Seattle and Pullman instead of Orlando and Morgantown.

Here's hoping for Prime video as the carrier of our streaming games.
You're shorting the amount of streaming we're going to have to sign on for considerably. It'll all be Apple too btw, no Amazon.

Well maybe by Tuesday we'll be off to the Big12.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I hope we're not on Apple. It constantly freezes when watching MLB. Don't have this problem with other streaming services.

Sad day for the conference of champions but we had no choice if we were to survive. I personally didn't want this to happen. I put this squarely on the presidents and Larry "snake oil" Scott.

Oregon State, SDSU, Virginia Tech, & Louisville would round this conference out nicely.

Personally, I would have put this thread in the Football Forum as that's the sport that really drove this move but I'm being picky this morning for some reason.

Chi - why do you say OSU? Just for a NW presence? I agree with the others though.

Man, it's going to be weird as I have only known Arizona really as a PAC school. Our second year in the league was during my Freshman year.

Fanbase enthusiasm, geography (NW presence and closer to Portland than Eugene), sneaky good at the revenue sports, culture, fit, color scheme, mascot… I don’t know. They just feel like a fit to me.

Agree, it blows and I hate seeing the 108 year legacy of the pac 12 end because of nothing other than greed and mismanagement by Larry Scott and people like ASU's president. But it is necessary for the UA to survive. Time to get used to road trips to Waco and Lubbock and Ames and Manhattan Kansas.

Has to be a scheduling issue. Meaning, the newcomers have their schedules set for 24 and don’t have openings during the dates of the B12 - BE games.

On another note, the awesomeness of the B12 conference in basketball is and has been significantly overblown. The conference schedules OOC so insanely weak you never get a clue of their quality and then the conference underperforms in the NCAAT just about every season.

Folks, especially media and quasimedia folks, have been so butthurt over the P10/12 they have sold you all a bill of goods on the B12.

Oh, and basketball doesn’t matter. Consider keeping that in maid as Yormark is selling leveraging off hoops and when this all blows up in 3 years lol.

Can you name a better basketball conference right now that’s better top to bottom? I can’t.

6 of the 8 B12 tournament teams did not make it out of the 1st weekend and the conference’s record was sub 500. Last year’s tournament record off the top of my head was about the same.

Adding ASU CU and Utah isn’t going to help. If KU starts to decay …

Ah, but that wasn’t my question.

In any case, I’d rather be in the Big XII than our other options which were to stick it out in the PAC4-6 or join the MWC.

For sure and my point wasn’t that the B12 isn’t the best conference. For starters I dunno how to even make that analysis. But the quality of the conference is overblown. In part because they literally play nobody out of conference:

Big 12 OOC SOS ranks

Houston 226th
ISU 345th
Baylor 93rd
BYU 329th
UT 275th
TTech 226th
TCU 357th
OU 320th
KSU 197th
OkSt 327th
WVu 108th
KU 62nd
Cinci 297th
UCF 334th

How are we to know how good the conference is based on that mess, plus the lousy NCAAT performance? When those 2 things keep happening how long to we need to dismiss them? KU won like 12 conference regular season titles in a row at one point, what’s that say about quality depth at the top of the conference? Is there a 2nd elite level performing program that isn’t a Johnny Come Lately or didn’t fade away?

Seriously over-rated and an easy conference to shade in your NCAAT bracket.

Arizona and Robbins lost/failed the conference realignment sweepstakes and got relegated. Maybe it was the best available landing spot, and the only one available, but it still stinks. Hopefully it all blows up in 3 years.

Don't know what algorithm Pomeroy uses but he rates them #1. Pac-12 was 6th. This has been fairly consistent over the years IIRC.

It's truly hard to find any administrator at any single Pac-12 university from the Larry Scott hire to now that wasn't somewhat responsible for the downfall of the conference. Incompetence of the highest order all around by so many so called smart people.

Just like the other P4 leagues, the Big XII has its share of smaller towns that wouldn't be vacation destinations. We've got Ames and some others, and they've got (among others) Lafayette, Starkville, and Blacksburg (not to forget Pullman and others in the old Pac.) For some reason, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Cincinnati, Orlando, etc. are left off some discussions of the new league, which also adds Phoenix, greater Denver, Salt Lake, and Tucson.

Pullman is an international city with a vibrant downtown featuring numerous Michelin starred restaurants that is a draw for tourists from all corners of the world. There are CERTAINLY no truck stops there. Just EV charging stations hidden cleverly amongst public sculptures, manicured green spaces, and world-renowned architecture. It is the Brussels of Southeastern Washington.
