Possible reflection on ASSU’s football team. South Alabama is beating Oklahoma St 33-7 middle of the 4th quarter

Not even sure where to start with just how badly Arizona State played in their 29-0 loss to Fresno State. Their worst loss since UNLV upset a #15 ranked ASU in 2008?

First home shutout since 1988. 8 total turnovers. 5 interceptions to include two in-game QB benchings. Ineffective halftime adjustments, which cost ASU last weekend's game Vs Oklahoma State.

Dillingham appears in over his head. But not sure it's fair to blame Dillingham for how disastrously ASU's season is starting given how ineptly Crow and Ray Anderson have run the program into the ground.

ASSu has been obliterated by injuries this year. 4 of 5 starting o-linemen are out. Their starting QB might be out for the year. Half their secondary is out, plus many more.

Might be telling to see how many of these injured players hit the portal at years end. Not playing would save them a year of eligibility

I actually feel sorry for Dillingham. I really do. It's gotta be terrible to have such love and loyalty toward that joke of a diploma mill he cried over in his introductory press conference.

I don't. If he didn't have the brains to realize that he was hired as a placeholder coach until the sanctions blow over he's not too bright.

Personally, I'm surprised nobody sued asu for the illegal recruiting during the pandemic. If even one relative of a recuit that visited the asu campus during the pandemic died the surviving relatives would have grounds to sue asu.

Today's line for USC @ ASU is -34.5.

This is one of the few games with a line that wide where I'll take the over, USC winning by 35 or more. And I could even see the Trojans beating the line by halftime.

After trouncing Stanford last Saturday 56-10, Caleb Williams was vocal about wanting e everybody to feel the pain. And with Lincoln Riley the Trojans have a coach that doesn't let up.

Gonna get ugly in Tempe.

USC 59 - ASU 6

They are saying every seat is sold. But one way to still get tickets if you want one is ticketmasters second hand site. Or stub hub. Or seat geek etc

Starting ASU RB Cam Skattebo defends himself on what is otherwise a clear late hit. He follows the KR out of bonds and stands on the sideline for a moment before turning back in bounds to knock a Colorado defender down.

Dillingham had his player obviously fake an injury in order to stop the clock and kick a field goal.

I'm a high school official (different sport). This is completely unethical and disgusting.

Not to excuse their performance but the QB that gave us so much trouble last year went down early with an injury. On a happy note they just signed their defensive coordinator to a three year contract before that game. Our game will be their super bowl so watch out for late hits and cheap shots.

Yes, Trenton Bourguet.

I don't know how I watched most of ASU's unwatchable, 55-3 loss to Utah, but I did; probably because I had other, way more entertaining games on the other screen, such as a lively Texas Vs Kansas State matchup.

Bourguet was knocked off the field early in the game by a left ankle injury. Into the second quarter I was surprised to see Bourget back from the locker room and warming up on the sideline so soon. Seemed like the coaches were rushing Bourguet back into the game, but considering how thin ASU is a QB, they are running out of options:

1) Game 1 starting freshman Jaden Rashada has been out since the second week of the season due an undisclosed injury. 2) His backup Drew Pyne is also out with injury. 3) 4th stringer Jacob Conover went 5-22 for 41 yds while Bourguet was sidelined Vs Utah.

There's a pattern this season for ASU. They're able to play games tough through the end, sometimes winning but more often losing late - 21-24 @Cal, 24-27 Vs Colorado, 7-15 @ Washington, all in successive weeks. Since then they've beaten Washington State and UCLA. But scattered amidst their better showings are a few meltdowns - 0-29 Vs Fresno St, 3-55 @ Utah.

Based on the pattern I expect a blowout loss to a motivated Oregon team before rallying to give the Wildcats all hell in Tempe.

For the few of us who watched an undermanned ASU pull off a truly strange win over UCLA, for all their injuries and roster departures, Kenny D seems to be able to get value out of what little he has most of the time. The defense can come together and be very pesky. Bourguet has been able to effectively play around the limitations of his hobbled ankle by playing shotgun and getting rid of the ball quickly. A very frustrated UCLA defense was never able to catch onto ASU's bag of tricks.

For our game, I'm more worried about ASU's offense staying on the field with baited penalties, trick plays, fake punts, and unconventional playsets. They were willing to do all of that and more Vs UCLA, and it worked. Our game plan must hone in on three players: Scattebo, who can do most everything; Bourguet, who avoids mistakes; And WR Elijah Badger who is their most reliable big yardage playmaker.

This LA Times recap sums up their performances Vs UCLA:

"Cameron Skattebo was the difference-maker for the Sun Devils. Listed as a running back, Skattebo wasn’t limited to just running the ball as he threw for a touchdown and took snaps throughout the game. He scored on a 17-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to seal the win during a drive extended by UCLA penalties on third down."

"Arizona State quarterback Trenton Bourguet completed 19 of 34 passes for 149 yards, with an interception. Skattebo finished with 61 rushing yards in 12 carries. Elijhah Badger caught 12 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown for the Sun Devils."
