We always thought SDS was a dump, now confirmed:

http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/loc ... /85567586/

The Arizona Board of Regents is expected to vote Friday on the third and final stage of construction on Sun Devil Stadium with the overall budget expected to rise by about $12 million, to $268 million.

The board's vote would clear the way for Arizona State University to issue bonds later this year to fund the final stage of an extensive renovation, which is expected to wrap up in time for the 2017 football season.

The school said in documents presented to the regents that unforeseen site conditions, such as a construction landfill discovered in the north end zone, have increased the cost.

Construction also had to be accelerated to avoid affecting the 2016 football schedule.

ASU Chief Financial Officer Morgan Olsen told regents during a committee meeting Wednesday that workers ran into unstable soil conditions in the north end zone that hadn't been identified in previous testing.

"The project is not being funded through taxpayer dollars or tuition."

Why wouldn't they get what they want? They are paying for it. Getting ABOR approval is nothing more than a formality in this case.

We've known for years that the stadium was built over the top of an old dump. That's why we have called it the "Dump", not just because we despise them. This is a well know fact.

How was this missed during the design phase? Bad engineering to not know this existed.

ASU AD wants different approach from Todd Graham
"One of the things, very frankly, that we're trying to do better around here is to talk less and deliver more," Anderson said. "We'll be minimum on the bravado and all the predictions about greatness and just let our play speak for us."

After last season, Anderson talked with the football coach about his sideline demeanor during games. A few times Graham was caught on camera screaming at his assistants, moments that generated discussion on social media. Anderson had a similar conversation with basketball coach Bobby Hurley about his interaction with officials.

ASU enters Graham's fifth season with a lot of questions. The Sun Devils will have a new quarterback and rebuilt offensive line. The secondary needs improvement. As a result, external expectations -- conference media likely will slot ASU fourth or fifth in the South division -- won't be high, a change from last season.
Boo, bring back the best team ever!

The article states they will be issuing bonds. How exactly is the debt service on the bonds being paid? Is there some sort of endowment or trust set up to pay them?

Alumni employment is 287 for them, compared to 50 for us. And the "quality of education" is 378+, aka tied for worst. They're buoyed by not having many really bad numbers, and being pretty high with patents. But in terms of where it would be better to go to school, it's pretty clear cut.

The whole first "sentence," if you can call it that, looks like it was written by a first-year high school English as a Second Language student.

The Contract Project Manager is probably a Civil Engineer Grad from the U of A hired to fix the crappy old design of the stadium before it fell apart. Is this why they are so worried???

This is also the real reason I believe their stadium design resembles that of Arizona Stadium. Of Course they will later claim that their design was thought of first.

once all the national title hype last summer fizzled out into a losing season (like it always does for them), they won't sell out many games, if any. until the next time they win 9-10 games and the hype builds up again. but this will be a year we probably match or beat them in attendance.

ASU's Todd Graham on Game 1 criticism: 'I don't get it'
Despite the lopsided score, Arizona State wasn't sharp in its opening 44-13 win over Northern Arizona. In fact, the Sun Devils didn't pull away from the lower-division Lumberjacks until the fourth quarter. That brought criticism from fans and media.

Partially as a result, ASU got off to a slow start, leading NAU 10-3 :o at halftime. After the game, Graham called the Sun Devils' first-half effort "nerve-racking."

ASU could be without three linebackers for at least half of Saturday's contest. Senior Salamo Fiso was suspended last week (violation of team standards) and may miss this week as well. In addition, junior Christian Sam suffered a foot injury against NAU, and junior Marcus Ball was ejected because of a targeting infraction.

That ASSu game went about as expected. I thought NAU would hang into the third and then the deeper team would prevail. However, NAU left a lot of points on the board. You would think that over 400 yards of offense would net more than 13 points.
