UNLV used to be Tier 4. Glad they cleaned up.

SDSU does not offer doctoral programs. They are part of the CSU system which normally terminates at masters program. Research programs leading to doctoral degrees are the mandate of the UC system.

Academic snobbery, and anyone who has worked in an academic environment can attest to that.

I have long talked about the inherent disadvantages for the conference being so far west with recruiting and TV start times. I may have even been underestimating how bad those disadvantages are.

The PAC-12 has been trying for months to get Big 12 schools to join the PAC. With how much turmoil is going on the Big 12 that speaks volumes

What’s the deal with UCLA and USC saying the beach volleyball teams will stay in the PAC. If the PAC stays together, there is no way we allow them to stay after being so secretive about this move. When your out, your out.

….and if you choose to leave the conference, you get to drop the sport programs your new conference doesn’t have. Maybe they should have negotiated that before the surprise announcement.

I think SEC might make the move out west. They won’t just give those to markets to the Big-10 and Big-12. I expect Oregon probably has reached out to both. Based on Robbins views on football, I expect a push to get into the SEC.

Oregon and Washington will be tied together.
Arizona, ASU, Utah, and Colorado will be tied together.
Stanford and cal might be tied together. I expect SEC or Big-12 want to include California markets to their tv deals.
WSU and OSU are joining the mountain west.

Are they actually even students anymore with NIL(at least in the the big revenue sports)? The whole NCAA just needs to become a semi professional league with school work/degrees optional. Maybe just eliminate the Conference affliations all together and just have a pool of high revenue producing schools separated by region. That is where the all mighty dollar has taken us. Travesty in every way and basically the destruction of true college athletics.
And to that point who cares what academic standing any new prospective school has if it's all about revenue generation now?

Two ideas:

1. Merge the remnants of the big east, pac-12, mountain west and big ten. Merge the acc, Big 12 and SEC. Prep for the inevitable civil war.

2. Blow the whole thing up and move to an English soccer style league. Top XXX teams play in Div 1 for their sport. Less winning programs relegated to D2. Let fox and ESPN battle it out for which tier they get.

Did anyone dispute that it wasn't? I think it was more of I'm not spending my money and time on a worthless product like Arizona football. I personally wasted a lot of time watching Arizona football late at night on the east coast and now in the central time zone and that will likely continue. However, I can't blame anyone for giving up.

At this point it's probably the smart move, as painful as the idea is of leaving the west coast and our rivals and traditions. If we want to survive we now have to pull the eject handle on this dying conference ASAP. I hate it but it's the only logical move.

I want BIG10 (I know, no chance), then ACC or PAC-BIG12 merger (cut the fat from both before merging), PAC10 (low because this feels too unstable), PAC (without Oregon and Washington) with the Mountain West is just terrible IMO.

I thought the PAC12 said no when the BIG12 was scrambling after Texas and OU left. However, this was when USC/UCLA were still "committed" to the PAC.

Not sure if you are serious in thinking this alignment would garner much interest from TV?

We would be further down the revenue ladder then we already are. If the Big 10 gets Notre Dame then every school can bank 150m a year with the LA schools along with ND.

We have to go balls out for the Big 10. The Big 12 is a lateral move at best and might keep us competitive for awhile but this landscape clearly shows the future will be about 60 schools and most will be in two or three conferences. That alignment you proposed would not be included in that top 60 IMO

I think Big 12 would be better, I am just asking the question.

Yes revenue would be far less in the new PAC than Big 12

Well then for me it’s Big 10 or bust and slide to oblivion.

The conference is toast. No Money and no markets that intrigue TV. No way to attract a marquee institution due to the revenue issues.

Big 12 is losing its marque teams and in reality is what the PAC is now. They are least have a decent TV revenue contract but that will pale when the next numbers are announced.

One item to keep in mind: Cal should be raising hell with the UC Regents about the negative impacts this has on school financials/positioning. If ucla did not get advanced blessing, enough political pressure could be raised to block their move. While the UC regents have historically allowed independent university decision making, it was always under the premise it could not negatively impact other programs.

USC could still make an independent move, but would hope this isolates them for their treachery.

Neither. It's Big 10, SEC, possibly ACC or bust. These other conferences will all be 2nd tier at some point and the recruiting disadvantages of being 2nd tier will ruin our athletic programs. Not to mention a much much smaller opportunity to ever have a shot at National Championships. That is why this whole thing is a frigging joke. Barely even worth caring about college athletics anymore unless your school is economic powerhouse. Oh and Fuck Larry Scott for being a lazy parasite with no foresight whatsoever.
