Why was GameDay at TCU when the WVU-TCU game is on FS1?

I thought they only did ESPN/ABC games, except for games like Army/Navy.

They will occasionally do games not carried by ESPN, then Kirk flies out to ESPN's best evening game

They didn't even pick the ASU-UofA game on GameDay, with Sir Charles (an Arizona resident) as the guest picker.

Good to have GameDay back. We'll probably never see Corso on set again unfortunately.

EDIT: And there he is on the set!

They were just talking about NIL. Desmond Howard and RGIII were both on the cover of EA Sports NCAA video game.
Reece asked if they ever received a dime. They both said no. Then David Pollack said "legally" under his breath and everybody just ignored the comment.

College Gameday interrupting their football talk with live rap performances from Jack Harlow. Nothing against Jack Harlow - the music industry is in the throes of giving him the Post Malone treatment - but who tunes in wanting to see these gimmicky acts? Gameday feels like one of those too many awards shows rather than a sports show. Make it a shorter show and stick to talking football. No wonder I'm watching more of Fox Sports' Big Noon Kickoff these days.

No. From the part I saw it was just the talking heads bloviating about which team is going to win each conference and who will make the playoffs.

I've always loved GameDay. But I'm thinking the recent changes are not good.

While I think McAffe has cred as a good ex player, I'm not a fan of his style and don't think he should've been put on GameDay.

I think Pollack is kind of an arrogant prick, but I think he was a valuable part of the GameDay team.

You sure they weren’t choosing whether Iowa will score a point or not?

Unless Michigan turns the ball over 5-6 times this one will go like a lot of Michigan games this year. Michigan will take an early lead - nothing too big - then slowly squeeze the life out of its opponent until they say uncle.

ESPN used fake names to secure Emmys for ‘College GameDay’ stars

https://theathletic.com/5193316/2024/01 ... ge-gameday

In March 2023, Shelley Smith, who worked 26 years as an on-air reporter for ESPN, received a call from Stephanie Druley, then the network’s head of studio and event production. Druley said she wanted to talk about something “serious” that needed to stay between the two of them, Smith recalled. She then told Smith that Smith needed to return two sports Emmy statuettes that she had been given more than a decade earlier.

That request was one of many ESPN made of some of its biggest stars last year after the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the organization that administers the Emmys, uncovered a scheme that the network used to acquire more than 30 of the coveted statuettes for on-air talent ineligible to receive them. Since at least 2010, ESPN inserted fake names in Emmy entries, then took the awards won by some of those imaginary individuals, had them re-engraved and gave them to on-air personalities.

Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard and Samantha Ponder, among others, were given the ill-gotten Emmys, according to a source briefed on the matter, who was granted anonymity because the individual is not authorized to discuss it publicly. There is no evidence that the on-air individuals were aware the Emmys given to them were improperly obtained.

More detail here:

https://defector.com/espn-busted-in-dum ... -air-stars

The media story of the day, courtesy of Katie Strang at The Athletic, goes over a scheme used by the network for more than a decade to pad its stars' mantelpieces with statuettes. As outlined in the fab piece, ESPN bosses wanted hardware for the on-air folks, particularly those on its hugely successful College GameDay programming. But until last year, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the sanctioning body that bestows around 400 of the $400 baubles on media folks each year, held that only staffers on the other side of the camera were eligible for consideration in the outstanding show category, which is awarded collectively to the staff of the winning show, all of whom receive engraved statuettes. This was to prevent on-air talent, who could be nominated for individual awards, from winning twice for the same work.

But somebody at the network evidently decided they needed to get around the star-stifling rules. And at some point before 2010 and maybe as far back as 1997, ESPN began putting the names of fictitious workers in the lists it sent to NATAS of personnel included in its outstanding show nominations, and let the show’s huge renown—and, apparently, nobody's curiosity about any of those behind-the-scenes workers—carry the day. To make sure insiders still knew whose statue was whose (and possibly to make re-engraving the statuettes easier), the fake names mirrored those of the show’s real luminaries. Strang’s story included a wondrous graphic showing some of these: “Shelley Saunders” for Shelley Smith, "Lee Clark" for Lee Corso, “Chris Fulton” for Chris Fowler, “Tim Richard” for Tom Rinaldi, and “Dirk Howard” for “Desmond Howard. (“Dirk”? Seems somebody had Boogie Nights on the brain.)
