It's interesting to me; USC basically starts the search now, collecting information and getting in touch with people through back channels.

But the problem is, Haden is still in place. Firing Haden at the end of the year still means he handles this search, which I'm sure the USC faithful are super happy about.

I'm sure lot of people want to get rid of haden which means they're kind of in a bind the next couple months when it comes to hiring a new coach

Justin Fuente should be considered for many jobs. I could see him having a good shot at getting the South Carolina job.

Better than the Maryland job and any other gig that opens up in the state of Virginia or North Carolina.

It doesn't matter if RR names is being mention or consider and we seen that with him every time a position open. Do you really think he going to leave all of the progress he has made and jump at bigger ship. RR is commit to Arizona and his name is just throw out by third parties. USC has not interest.

Cross anyone off the USC list who doesn't run a pro style offense.

USC is going to pull a ULCA move. The names that were mention are not even consideration too USC.

Just finished listening to a podcast where a host who is a big Oregon fan went on a rant about the need for wholesale changes at Oregon starting with dumping Helfrich and his staff.

Here is the nightmare scenario that jumped into my head. Phil Knight swoops into Tucson and promises Byrne, Rodriguez and Miller everything the could ever want. They each call their wives and all decide to leave town asap.

The trio now has the chance to compete for championships, top money for their staffs/programs, and a college town where they are the most important sports program in the state/region. All they give up is a little bit of sunshine.

The last thing Tucson ever sees is a tweet from Matty D - #ontothenextone #wintheday

Looks like I picked a bad season to give up sniffing glue.

It's more than giving up a little bit of Sunshine. I think the saving grace is that neither RichRod nor Miller have an overlord like Knight to answer to, and neither of them would ever tolerate it.

Also, Knight isnt going to be around much longer IMO. He is pushing 80 and it's only a matter of time until he becomes the Al Davis of Oregon.

Al Golden just got fired.

O'Leary out at UCF.

8. Rich Rodriguez, Arizona head coach, 52: He’s won two Big East Coach of the Year honors and won the Pac-12’s Coach of the Year last season. Rich Rod had a rough three-year stint as Michigan’s head coach before revitalizing ’Zona and leading the Cats to the Pac-12 South title last year. He’s also done well with Florida kids. Arizona has limited resources, but the school has tried to do its best to ramp up support. Rodriguez, who did very well once as Clemson’s OC, could be an intriguing option for South Carolina this winter. He also figures to be in play if Frank Beamer decides this is his last season at Va. Tech, which could happen.

Now it not the time to worry about. RR would be back for fifth season at Arizona. All these school that have fired or resign coaches are going to go look for the next big things. Coaches from smaller school or up in coming are going to take those jobs. Beside RR isn't going to leave Arizona after he built the team with his own player.

At least at Miami RR could get the elite recruits he can't get at Arizona.

Although he won't be on the short list, or anyone's short list for that matter.

With how former players reacted to Golden being fired, I'm betting no way does RR get a sniff.

From what I'm seeing Davis is very interested in the job. I don't know that they'll go after RR unless they get turned down by several others. His offense would play extremely well out there but the initial fan reaction on Twitter is overwhelmingly negative to RR and the U already has enough issues filling seats. Also, RR has already had one run in with the NCAA (even though he was trying to follow the rules, it was practice time, not benefits) and you know he doesn't want another. Miami has been a magnet for NCAA violations over the years. I don't know if he wants that.

As for where I think RR could end up if for whatever reason another school did poach him this year... to me, VT (if they open) is the one school that I could see being able to pull him. Would the boosters go for it? He has friends in the department there. It's close to home. It's not a given that he would even get a call, but odds are they'd look into him, the hot boards will light up and the rumors will swirl. I don't think South Carolina considers him. UCF won't be able to pay enough (word online is that a lot of coaches think that place is somewhere you can win big, though.) Illinois and Maryland - no way. Lateral moves at best, worse climate, back in the B1G.

Hot commodities this year are going to be Tom Herman, Kirby Smart, Justin Fuentes, and Matt Wells. I could see Fuentes and Wells filling the B1G openings, with Smart going to South Carolina and an outside shot at Herman going to USC. I think Miami fills their job within the family.

My musings:

VT is the only job I can see opening a dialogue with RRod, and even that I'll predict falls through if they can get a more likeable, younger candidate the fans will like. As Arizona fans who've benefitted from RRod as coach, it's too easy to forget how unlikeable and how damaged (post-Michigan) the rest of the CFB world views RRod. It won't be a matter of RRod isn't good enough to take a job like VTech, Louisville, South Carolina, Maryland, etc - it's more a matter of those respective fanbases and boosters not wanting anything to do with RRod. Which is good for us as UA fans. CTG is more likely to draw serious interest from the fans and boosters.

Speaking of which, I could see CTG interviewing for the Miami job.

As for the SC job - is Jack Del Rio in the works? The timing and circumstances line up. First, it will finally get SC out from under the Pete Carroll tree which hasn't gone well for them. Also, with how well pulling from the NFL ranks has gone well for SC (with Carroll and for UCLA to a lesser extent with Mora) I can see Rio getting a call. Plus, I think they want a no nonsense guy to size up with Mora's equivalent no nonsense personality.

If Davis goes to UM. Todd Graham has reportedly been interested in Tennessee. Could shake up a lot of things.

Why would Del Rio leave the Raiders now that they are on the upswing, possibly moving to LA anyways, and deal with recruiting? With a few exceptions NFL money is always going to be higher.

RR could be in South Carolina Miami or Virginia Tech's top 10 but I think Virginia Tech will be the only school that would seriously go after him

I've heard Jack del Rio bandied about and I think they should definitely give him a call, but I remember last time around interest in the USC job just seemed so muted and they couldn't land any A-list types. I kind of doubt Kelly would end up there even if the Eagles canned him. I believe the school is already on record as saying former Carroll assistants won't be considered.

Agreed on other schools and RichRod. It's not his coaching ability, it's public perception. If CTG was hired away from ASU, that place would be a smoking crater for the next 3 seasons... please, Miami, do us a solid here?

I don't think so. He is pretty stoked on coaching the Raiders. Had they gone after him a year ago maybe, but I don't see Del Rio to SC being realistic.

Until RR show any interested of those coaching Job, RR would be back for a 5th year at Arizona. The Media is trying to hype his name up for those school to presume him.

Maybe not, but you still make the phone call. Worst he can do is say no and you move on to the next guy on the list.
