Why so many diff boards

So I am a newb to the forum thing but why are there so many. I understand the pay boards and their motivations, but why don't some of the free boards combine? I wont name them as that might be considered bad form but there are a couple out there that seem very similar.

UA Scout dropped their non-sports forums, UA Rivals no longer has any free boards period.
PGU is owned by Ace Thakore which is on a ban list by the UA AD.
Haven't been to the other sites in years.

I also like to see what is going on in the broader community. My initial impression is that this board is a little rosier than some of the other boards.

I haven't been to another board in a couple of years again now.
