Just an update. Progress has been a bit slow but some new features should be coming online in the coming weeks. Some highlights:
Rep-like functionality
New layout and color scheme (sorry Bruins!)
Ability to seamlessly embed a lot of media content

A mobile app is something I'd like to see, but is not in the short term plans as yet. If we have anyone in the community with any any dev skills, hit me up!

I've done a bit of searching, and there is at least 1 phpbb plugin that purports to make phone browsing easier: tapatalk. It has not been certified by phpbb, is apparently difficult to install, and has security holes you could drive a truck through. Not recommended. Phpbb also suggests that phpbb does basically everything tapatalk does anyway.

Whatever.

My only real beef is that the navigation buttons are microscopic compared to the size of my fingers. Also there is a lot of real estate taken up by stuff that is just not important all the time.

When the layout redesign is completed I hope to reformat a number of things, tiny buttons is definitely one to address.

Slowly but surely. It's nice being able to develop a better site/features with having to do so under the gun of 'site is down, gotta band aid something?'. Ha!
Sometime next week or so, I'll share the other domain I'm using to test changes and such so you all can see some of what's coming. Ultimately, that testing domain will become a backup place to congregate if we ever again have a long board outage.

Obviously there have been some tweaks tonight. Testing some new things. Over the next week or so things will continue to be refined. Some features are a bit iffy so far. I am having issues with some of the media embeds in posts. Working on it. Please be patient while I work out the kinks. Thanks!

On my phone using the Samsung mobile browser there is now a big floating button at the bottom of each thread to reply.

I am currently testing a reputation/karma system for the board. I hope to go live tomorrow. Please be patient as there will be a lot of settings to tweak once folks start putting it to work, so it'll be a process. Slowly but surely, we're getting there.

Lol. My consulting company is helping to upload a new e-commerce website this weekend for Australia & NZ. We need to provide Hypercare support after the launch so providing AUS eastern time support from folks in India and US has been fun.

Interestinly, it appears that the call centres serving Oz are in the Phillipines for the most part. Tasmania has a whole bunch serving the US and Europe, I guess they are just too busy for us. I have seldom run across an Indian call center here, but I did play a mostly unwitting hand in moving my job to India when I managed a programming team that was split between India and Sydney. It was a hassle maintaining programming quality standards, but apparantly I got it to work pretty well, and they got over confident. The next project they tried they skipped the part about having Senior Programmers on site to liase with the foreign based pool, lost the confidence of the client, and the entire practice went downhill and eventually abandoned.

When the pandemic hit and we had to make airline changes for AA, the CSR was in the Philippines. My wife put it on speakerphone so I could hear it since the CSR had 5 or 6 roosters crowing.

I spent a little bit of time in the Philippines when I was in the USAF in the late 1970's. The people I met there had excellent English skills, unlike those I met in Japan although at the time English was required. The Philippines kicked out the US military presence at Clark AFB and Subic Bay, although Clark was already closed or near closed due to volcano ash.

My wife lived at Clark afb 67-69 until they moved to DC and my father-in-law worked at the Pentagon. She has a lot of great memories of the Philippines.

I haven't spent much time here recently. I am graduating in May in Health Information Technology and my focus has been on school. I have 2 credentialing exams I am preparing for and involved in Professional Practical Experience (unpaid internship) with Mayo Clinic.

I really like what is happening to this site. The navigation is impressive. And the ambient look is great. This board is great. I love the reputation and we can finally put GoAzCats fully behind us now. Thanks UAdevil. This is fantastic!

Can someone show me how to donate? I had a problem with donation on the old BDW and I want to make sure I can show my appreciation.
