2018 New York Yankees

Post by Chicat »

The rich keep getting richer. Yankees are about to finalize a trade for Giancarlo Stanton.

Gardner CF
Judge LF
Sanchez C
Stanton RF
Bird 1B
Didi SS
Hicks DH
Headley 3B
Torreyes 2B

I predict they’ll hit eleventy billion home runs.

Stanton is the new Kevin Garnett

Kind of surprised that they went for him, instead of waiting for a left handed hitte in Harperr to break up Sanchez and Judge. I think Stanton's use of the Yankees as leverage for the Dodgers to make a move might have backfired on him

How has anything backfired on Stanton? He can opt out in three years and gets to play in the biggest of the big markets. Or was that a “everyone actually wants to play for the Dodgers” take? In which case ... heh.

As for breaking up the righties, very easy to slide Didi or Bird in between them.

I'm not sure Stanton's desire to play for the Dodgers was a "take", as so much the worst kept secret in baseball, the Dodgers just werent interested in the price.

I doubt Stanton opts out in 3 years. I can't see anyone giving him more than that type of money at 31

This has disaster written all over it especially if the Yanks have to give up too much young talent. Expectations will now be WS win or bust.

And knowing Yankee fans all too well if things go south there will be hell to pay.

Even so this trade is strange as it goes against the new Yankee strategy to build a winning team within. That's a big ass contract $30M a year for the next 2-10 years depending on the opt out. That will exclude them from going after other free agents next year - wouldn't Bryce Harper be nice in that ballpark?

Will be entertaining to watch that's for sure.

@jonmorosi
Source: Last-ditch effort by #Dodgers to get Stanton today is unlikely.

Im surprised they dont just throw out an offer publicly, just to further delay things.

So after this, Jeter can leave the Marlins and attempt to hook up with the Cubs, right? Kris Bryant in pinstripes?

Only time there is really hell to pay is if management doesn’t do everything they can to put a winning product on the field. Can’t say that now....

They’ve got one of the best bullpens in baseball with Robertson, Betances, and Chapman. Starters right now are Luis Severino (14-6 2.98), Sonny Gray (10-12 3.55), Jordan Montgomery (9-7 3.88), and Masahiro Tanaka (13-12 4.74). Tanaka is the old man of the group at 28, and although he had an up and down season, he was lights out in the playoffs.

Michael Pineda will sit out 2018 and move on to another team (the Twins?). I think Sabathia is done, even though he had a great year. So there’s room for one new starter.

They could look at a free agent like Cobb, Darvish or Arrieta, or they could look inside the organization at Chance Adams, or a guy like Luis Cessa who was supposed to win Montgomery’s spot but came into camp out of shape last year. My bet is on Cessa. If he sucks again, they’ll make a trade.

I really like this team. I see them as the favorite to win the AL East right now.

81 plate appearances and Stanton's hitting .185 with a 0.0 WAR so far -- i like him a lot, hope he gets it together soon....... Yankee fan(s) are getting restless.

Feels like as the weather warms up, so will he. Yankee fans need to step the fuck off with the booing.

Meanwhile, a certain former Diamondback is putting up MVP numbers...

The idea that a team’s record 1/7th the way through the season means anything as far as individual player comparisons is pretty entertaining.

Didi is doing really well. Good to see. Ahmed is a good player. Maybe the best defensive SS in baseball. Has ability at the plate but not nearly as good as Didi.

If Didi keeps it up he will be a shoe-in for MVP this year.

Chi - you picking on Dback fans is the reason so many people hate the Yankees and their fan arrogance. Btw, the weather sucks up here! :P

I’m not picking on anyone and I’m not being arrogant. I mentioned Didi is a former DBack and Hater popped in to let me know they’re perfectly happy with their three SS’s who are hitting a collective .220 ....

I’m just over here providing valuable info:

I actually wouldn’t care if he was hitting 80 points less. He plays great D and is the emotional leader of the clubhouse. The fact that he’s doing his best Lou Gehrig impression at the plate is icing on the cake.

All alone in first place with the best record in baseball. And they keep coming back to win late.
Figure out the middle relief situation and this team could win 130.

Best winning percentage in baseball, and they keep the magic going with a two run walk off bomb from Stanton for their 23rd comeback win of the season.
