Yes, he has value, but not $23 mil/year value.

If Chapman comes back out someone should run on the field and yank his arm out of the socket.

Edwards effectively did that to himself with two outs.

Still feel that way knowing he gathered the whole team together during the rain delay and gave a speech that inspired the win? I'd say he earned at least a bit of it....

Congrats to Catin, Ari and the rest of the Cubs fans. Enjoy the moment.

What I think is getting lost in all of this was the rain delay before extras. To me, that was the baseball gods finally smiling down on a franchise and a fan base who have been cursed/riddled with bad luck/etc. for 108 years. For one, it stopped the bleeding and allowed the Cubs to regroup. To get some perspective. To get their minds away from "we choked this away in the 8th" to "hey, we are still tied and we are the team who was down 3-1, playing with house money and nothing to lose." Shaw had to sit and wait. Pitcher's arms hate delays, and Shaw had to sit for the bottom of the 9th and that rain delay. Arms get cold, muscles and tendons tighten up. He had to sit there and stew, knowing he was the guy who was going to get the ball in the top of the 10th, knowing he could ill afford to make any mistakes. If Maddon is smart, he doesn't tell which of his relievers is getting the ball in the bottom of the 10th until the last practical moment so the pressure is not stewing with them that entire delay.

Then play resumes. The infield grass is wet. Schwarber singles to right just past the diving 2nd baseman. Ground balls don't slow down on wet infield grass, they skid (remember the untrue bounce on Heyward's stolen base in the 9th that let him go to 3rd?). I think that ball is fielded on a dry field and they at least have a shot to get Schwarber at first. Then you get speed on first with a pinch runner, excellent base running to get to 2nd on that flyout by Bryant. That did two things: 1) puts the go head run in scoring position and 2) leads Francona to intentionally walk Rizzo to set up the double play. Number 2 was huge - while I think wet grass wasn't needed for Zobrist's double to get by the 3rd baseman, the 3rd baseman WAS playing double play depth, cheating a couple of steps in so they have time to turn two. That ball does not get by him if there is a runner only on 2nd and the 3rd baseman is playing straight up. Maddon almost coached himself out of a title with several poor decisions earlier, but he won that chess match against Francona in the top of the 10th, with help from a clutch leadoff single, outstanding base running, an unbelievable piece of hitting by Zobrist on a tough pitch (guy is nails), and a little bit of love from the baseball gods.

You could also say the rain was the sports gods keeping Cleveland in check.

"Look, we gave you the Cavs and we really don't want to see you turn into Boston fans, so let's just shift this pop-up thunderstorm a little south..."

The Cubs all called it the best rain delay ever. It was great for me too. I was thinking the game was lost. All the momentum was with the tribe. 15 minutes later and I'm like "we got this!"

I joked last night that the Cubs didn't need Adam Silver to mount a down 3-1 comeback, and Cleveland can't win titles without Adam Silver.

I really like the Cubs starting rotation. I think it is better than 2 years ago. Lester, Darvish, Hendricks, Quintana, Chatwood.

Quintana is starting to find his potential, and I'm interested to see what Chatwood can do away from Denver.

Best team in the National League all year and a two game losing streak means their season is over.

So dumb.

They couldn't score a run to save their life during the last month of the season. In their last 20 games the Cubs scored 1 run or less in 9 of them.

Anyone watching the Cubs closely since the all star break cannot be too surprised. No idea how this powerful lineup could just stop hitting... for months. What a wasted year.

But as they say in a Chicago.... wait until next year

Do you have an alternative to the one game playoff for the division?

Either get rid of the one game Wild Card altogether, or reduce the season by a week (156 games total), add 3 more teams to the playoffs and have a 3 game series all at the higher seed’s stadium to start.

This year in the NL first round you’d have....

1 Milwaukee vs 8 Washington
2 Dodgers vs 7 Pittsburgh
3 Atlanta vs 6 St. Louis
4 Chicago vs 5 Colorado

Can Bryce Harper & Max Scherzer pull off a miracle?
Will the Cubs bats turn it around?
Can the Cards keep the magic going against all the young talent on the Braves?

Much much better than what we’ve got in my opinion.
