No wonder he had such a good bounce-back season.

There had been talk of the Yankees trying to bring him back. Glad this came out before that was more than just talk.

Meanwhile, DJ LeMahieu just got a whole lot more expensive.

I forgot that Cleveland started out as the Spiders. They should most definitely go back to that. All kinds of cool stadium and apparel things that could happen with that nickname.

Padres are getting after it.

Couple other small signings or trades and they are ready to roll.

I can't believe the Dodgers gave Trevor Bauer this contract.$102M over three years means he'll be the highest paid player in history in 2021 and 2022 ... AND they gave him opt outs after both those years.

Who was doing their negotiating? Bauer's mother?

Is this coming from a Yankee fan who not too long ago paid Gerrit Cole $325 mil???

Sorry, but I'm raising the disingenuous flag. :-)

But seriously they had to keep up with Padres and other clubs in the NL that made big moves.

And a starting 5 of Buehler, Bauer, Kershaw, Price and Urias is pretty impressive.

Give me Cole over Bauer every day and twice on Sunday, and if the Yankees had given Trevor that contract I’d be losing my fucking mind right now.

MLB Network ranked the starting rotations heading into this year and understandably the Dodgers and Padres were 1 & 2. Less understandably, the Yankees were at #4 (seemingly because of Cole all by himself) ahead of the Nationals and Braves.

When I clicked on the article I didn’t think the Yanks would even be in the top 10. They’ve got THREE guys coming off of Tommy John surgery. Blech...

Today Is The First Day Of Spring Training

Posted: Sun Feb 28, 2021 10:00 am
by TheCatInTheHat
Just a reminder that the MLB Network carries lots of spring training games live, even though that's not reflected in the local TV sports listings. (The Dodgers play at the A's at 2 pm today.) I also found it interesting that, with smaller spring training facilities and further reduced capacity due to Covid restrictions, and some major league markets not likely to open up to local fans for some time, it can be a tough ticket. In addition, they've got even more restrictive rules on face masks. Gaiters and bandanas are not acceptable (sorry Sean) and must be worn at all times when not actively eating or drinking. Not sure how they plan on enforcing that, but I suppose it's one way to sell more beer. Under the laws of Unintended Consequences and Undesirable Effects from poorly constructed policy, it could get interesting. "Keep eating and drinking...here comes the usher!" It could wind up like a combination of a full-blown kegger and Nathan's World Hot Dog Eating Championship.

But also the first Covid cancellation. Mets/Nationals postponed due to positive cases.

He’ll still get 30 HRs and 80 RBIs for you.

Hope that isn’t a sign of things to come for the Dodgers. They played a real sloppy game.

That says something about Padre pitching over the last 50 years.

Not anymore. Musgrove is a middle of the rotation guy after Darvish and Snell.

They built an entire stadium with the intention of making it look like they knew what they were doing when it came to evaluating pitching. It didn’t work.

Two no hitters in April

Dodgers and Red Sox are hot!

Snell hasn't pitched 6 innings in a game since 2019

Never understood why they didn't put a retractable roof on that stadium (although I'm sure it was due to cost). They get hail the size of small volkswagons in the summer in Colorado. It's not like it's San Diego where playing indoors would be ridiculous.

I totally agree. Score a fucking run the the way you are supposed to do it.
Close second is that stupid 7 inning doubleheader game rule.

You know it's all about the players wanting to avoid injuries and lengthen their careers which means more potential income.

The Dodgers are hot garbage right now. Hard to know what' worse, the injuries, Dave Robert's managing extra innings, Mookie, Edwin Rios trying to bat, or Corey Seager trying to field a ball. Im leaning towards Seager's play barely worse than Dave Roberts

It is really ugly to watch this team right now. It's almost like the Yankees sent their "play like shit" curse over to the Dodgers.

Seager is in such a funk it's not even funny. He's blown several games single handedly.
The bullpen is atrocious - I get there are pieces out injured.
The offense is anemic.

Thank god it's a full season to turn things around.

Then you should be encouraged by how quickly the Yankees were able to turn it around.

As you said, it’s a long season. Every team has shitty stretches.

Dodgers first 15 games: 13-2
Since: 4-13

Yankees first 15 games: 5-10
Since: 11-4

The small samples are wild.
