So for the second straight time Dave Roberts brought Andre into the game in the second inning after the "opener" pitched one inning.

Are any other teams doing this?

The Rays started the “Bullpen Game” trend out of necessity but don’t do it any more.

The Yankees used to do the one inning thing but now when they need spot starts from non-starters they just let them go for as long as they feel comfortable, often getting 3-4 innings out of essentially a long relief guy.

It wears out your bullpen to have six or seven guys throw, so not too many teams still have a guy only pitch in the first inning. Might as well bring up a starter from the minors (especially with the 26 man rosters and Covid travel squad) as opposed to throwing everyone in the bullpen and then needing them to pitch the next night because the starter they thought was reliable has a bad game.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

True Chi.

For the Dodgers they are doing it because of a couple of reasons. First they have 2 key starters out with Kershaw and Bauer. Also because their other starters like Urias, Buehler and Mad Max can be dominant they can afford a bullpen game because those guys can come back and give the bullpen a rest the next day. Finally the Dodger bullpen has been so good it’s not a throwaway game for them.

Yep. Same reason the Rays started doing it. Couple starters out injured but they knew the guy starting the following game was good for at least 6-7 innings of work.

Beat me to it...but yes finally in first place.

BUT, they now have a 3 game series with the Giants in SF starting tomorrow and assuming the Giants win today (Dodgers are off) they will both be tied.

Biggest series of the year as nobody wants to go down the 1 game Wild Card path.

Gut wrenching loss last night in extra innings due to an all-star shortstop trying to learn how to play 2b screwing up a throw to first which would have got them out of the 11th inning.

I need to check if the Giants have a leprechaun on their roster.

I went to bed once the Dodgers ran out of position players and pitchers. I had a feeling it wouldn’t end well for the boys in blue.

Giants bullpen game didn’t work out last night against Urias and tonight they will be doing the same thing against Buehler in the rubber game. I like the Dodgers chances.

Pollock going down is a big blow as he, Taylor and Muncie have been carrying the offense. Time for Bellinger to step up.

Oh and thank god I don’t have to listen to those annoying Giant announcers tonight.

104 wins would lead every other division in Baseball and in some cases by 10+ games.

But of course the Giants are having a magical season with 106 wins.

Looks like a WC game against the hot Cards. If the Giants clinch today I wouldn’t pitch Buehler tomorrow and save him for Wednesday. But knowing Robert’s he will go with Sherzer.

Damn. Thought this was going like 13 innings there for a while.

The putting the runner on 2nd thing is only for the regular season, right?

CT with a big time walk off to send the Dodgers to the division series.

Mad Max was so-so but the Bullpen was the key to the win. And Bellinger came up big after having a shitty year.

Now on to the fucking Giants. Should be a nasty series.

Logan Webb and his generous strike zone looked like Greg Maddux last night but getting shut out is worrisome.
This team misses Muncy.

Hope Urias can shut down the Giants tonight and the bats wake up otherwise this will be a quick series.

Buehler and the pen were outstanding and the bats woke up. Nice win tonight to force a game 5.

Webb vs Urias - should be a pitchers duel

I need to purchase some additional heart medication…

Meh. Getting on base is for teams that can't win on defense alone.

I saw somewhere that the Giants won game 3 after catching four balls with an expected batting average of .890

The Giants somehow imported their San Francisco wind to Dodger Stadium. I have been watching the Dodgers since the Cey, Russell, Lopes, Garvey days and I have never seen a night like that. It was like a crazy Wrigley Field game. You can see Lux raising his arms thinking he hit the game-tieing homer in the 9th.

But I have to admit SF's defense has been utterly amazing this series. Besides Game 1 the Dodgers have been raking.

Both teams have won 109 games but somebody's season will end tomorrow night which is crazy.

Robert’s being Robert’s.

Urias not starting anticipating a stacked right hand hitting lineup for the Giants. Knebel starting and may just face 4 batters.

Let the chess game begin.

Flores was so boxed in, he had no chance at that bat. It's too bad it ended on a bad call because that was going to be a save either way.

Payback for an earlier Dodger loss to the Giants where the game should have ended but an obvious Giant swing wasn’t called.

Payback is a bitch. And the Giant fans can cry all they want…and suck a big one for all I care.

Squandered 2 opportunities for wins in Atlanta which is extremely disappointing.

Too many LOB's especially runners on third with less than 2 outs. Bullpen looked tired as well and gave up late game leads and walk offs.
And finally Corey Seager - you can't ole that last ball hit by Rozario. I know it was scorched but gimme some more and try and smother it so it doesn't reach the outfield.

Once again like last year the Dodgers are in a hole against Atlanta and now will need to win 4 out of the next 5.
Better start turning things around in Game 3.

Amazing comeback win for the Dodgers tonight. Bellinger with a big 3 run HR to tie it and Mookie knocks home the game winning run.

All in the 8th when they were left for dead - saved their season.

Now Urias needs to come up big tomorrow night to tie up the series.

Crazy first 3 games…

Lucky for the Dodgers they are going up against the Braves who just love to choke in the playoffs. Fully expect the Dodgers to win game 4 with the Braves going with a bullpen game.

I think the Dodgers need to have their backs against the wall before they get their shit together. Happened the last few years against the Braves and Brewers.
And they know how to choke too. They should have won games 1 & 2 if they would not have left so many runners on base in scoring positions.

Nervous about tonight because it would be just like the Dodgers to go down 3-1 in the series then have to claw their way back.

Talk about a team up against the ropes. A bunch of key injuries (Kershaw, Muncy, Turner) and they have to face Harvard-Westlake's (my HS) Max Fried.

Braves should close this out.

Survived to play another game. The Dodgers record for consecutive elimination wins is getting impressive so now on to Atlanta where MadMax and Buehler will need to come up big.

And how about that home run barrage by Taylor and Pollock last night. CT3 playing the Mr. October role with 3 jacks.

The 3-1 Braves collapse has started for the second consecutive year. If you can't tell, I'm a Braves fan, and because of that I fully expect them to blow this. Just trying to lower my expectations so I'm not disappointed.

Also, I posted above that I expected the Braves to lose G4 and they won so I figure I might as well try it again.

Not winning at least 1 of those first 2 games plus having to use a patchwork lineup including SP’s did them in.

They were counting on 3 Cy Young award winners to carry them through. Maybe if Bauer concentrated more on pounding the strike zone instead of women it would have been a better outcome.

Will be interesting to see what’s going to happen to Scherzer, Kershaw and especially Seager.
