a 40+ yard td called back because the wr touched his knee down while catching it (correct call)
followed by false start
followed by taking a sack

= time to punt to ucla with a lot of time left

Blaming refs is for losers. Bad calls go both ways. Just go out and win the game-which we did

This was a clear situation where the refs just sucked. So many missed calls, bad calls, makeup calls, etc. I don’t agree on the spots, but there many other no calls completely missed.

That game almost looked fixed. The side judges were terrible. We stole that game ( I will take it gladly) but it was the worst case of officiating I have ever seen. Those two spots were never even reviewed LOL

Even if they were reviewed, they'd get it wrong.

This is a conference that is 100 percent undisputably only as good in football as its officials.

And man, some of them are just plain mentally challenged, if not on the take. Numerous brain farts and blown calls already on national TV, particularly that ASU trip to East Lansing.

Arizona earned a hard-fought win tonight though.

Good memory on the name! Great memories during the Larry Smith years!

Is that the game in the mid 1980's where their kicker who hadn't missed all year missed a game tying 37 yard field goal on the last play of the game? Arizona won that one 27-24, I believe. I, too, thought back to the past when Molson missed tonight.

First thought when Tate was ruled out...Tate redshirts, grad transfers to Ole Miss and reunites with RichRod to finish his career against the SEC.

Other thoughts, I thought Gunnell was steering his throws instead of letting loose and slinging it. I agree that those side judges were biased (corrupt?.) towards Arizona on those two spots that gave us first downs. Punting was actually competent tonight. UCLA's Felton wasn't used too much this evening....was he in the doghouse? Defense totally relaxed after the back up QB came in. Oh, I thought calling time out to freeze the kicker was the wrong thing to do with 40 seconds left. Would of probably needed it to kick a game winning field goal.

Same here!

Slick Rick was the UCLA QB and his sister was the head cheerleader at the UA. Tunnecliffe was the UA QB. Led the Cats to some of their biggest upsets, at Notre Dame for one.

Yes. Gary Bender and Pat Haden were on the call on regional CBS. First televised Cat game since Fat Tony's probation.

Tunnicliffe hit Brad Anderson for the go-ahead TD in the back of the end zone. Jay Dobyns had hauled one in earlier too.

But Terry Donahue, that overachieving, slippery sucker, was never out of a game.

I was at the game...did not see the broadcast...didn't own VCR at the time. Great memories. Larry Smith's teams always had a toughness about them.

Larry Smith was leading the Cats to the Rose Bowl. Did not forgive him for years when he took the redeye to LAX without saying goodbye to the players and denying previously to Tucson media he was leaving.

If memory serves, KOLD would rebroadcast the games late night. I would go to the game, hit the clubs then rewatch the game when I got home.

I imagine so, my memory does not serve that well anymore.

They replayed the entire game in it's entirety. I recall there was a serious injury during one came, and it seemed like 15-20 minutes before they took the player off the field. They showed the entire 15-20 minutes of the injured player laying on the field.

They had the technology even back then to reduce the shown length of the games. I remember in the 1970s some cable channel would show every Grambling football game reduced to an hour with commercials.

They used to do that to NFL games when I first got Australia years ago. It was excruciating! There was no time to any lounge chair quarterbacking, argue about the play calls, or get a beer, or take a pee. Just play after play after play after play after play. They'd maybe have a 5 minute break between halfs where the host - an ex-pat American that otherwise served as a talk show side kick (like Ed McMann) would explain something or other about the game. There were no commercials because it was on the ABC which is not allowed.

It proved quite popular with folks who didn't know what they were watching, and thus built a market, but man was it tough to watch. Today its only available on the cable channel whose name shall not be spoken.

I ran on the field after the Lee miss and helped some frat boys carry the goal post out of the stadium. Alcohol may have been a factor. 10:30 am kickoff with screwdrivers :)

I could have been 11 I guess. My brain can't remember for sure. I just remember it was one of the channels that was a struggle for me to tune in on my black and white t.v.'s shitty antenna. Had to actually click the dial around to tv channels, and there were different channel selectors for uhf and vhf! Oh and get off my lawn
