It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

It's like they think they're Harvard or something. Pretty ridiculous.PieceOfMeat wrote:chanting "nobel prizes" now.

23 point win. Not bad considering how horrid the 1st half was.

Great to hear Stanley talking about honoring the process.

Re: Game 20, at California
some of that might just be old-school pac mentality. consider the conference's history: when the pac was exploring expansion from 8 to 10 with the AZ schools way back when, there was tremendous pushback from UW, 'Furd, and Cal due to the quality of academics at UA and asu. it took quite a bit of wrangling and finagling to get the presidents to ratify the arizona schools (a unanimous vote was required).
similarly, look at the way the pac schools balked during the expansion craziness a few years ago when the oklahoma schools and some other dumbo texas schools / byu / sdsu were being tossed around as possibilities. i know the 10 to 12 to possibly-14-or-16 expansion talks then were about media revenues and such, but the academics and AAU membership was also a pretty big part of it. the pac has historically been an eggheadish conference. college sports was a much different animal back then, but even still, the quality and level of competition in basketball outside of UCLA (and OSU) back then was an afterthought at a lot of these schools.

With all respect, Cal approaches Harvard. Stronger, even, in its Ph.D. programs. BTFD.AZCatGirl wrote:It's like they think they're Harvard or something. Pretty ridiculous.PieceOfMeat wrote:chanting "nobel prizes" now.

I've never heard of undergrads bragging about their school's graduate programs, and most graduate students don't adopt their graduate school's teams anyways, so it's a pretty strange thing to chant.1560s Guy wrote:With all respect, Cal approaches Harvard.
