What are the cool, maybe under the radar things to do there?

That doesn't strike me as "under the radar".

I'm getting married in the Seaside area on the coast next year and am probably gonna spend some time in Portland too. I haven't been there in almost 15 years so any info would help me too.

I don't have any Portland recommendations except that the Coast is awesome and not far from Portland. I've had a great time in the Seaside/Cannon Beach area.

I have heard Mt. Hood, Multnomah Falls and Columbia River Gorge are worth it from trusted friends, but have not been myself.

Since that last post, I have been to the gorge and Multnomah Falls, and they are worth the trip. Coast is still awesome.

My wife wants to go to Portland at the end of the month. I want to go as well but I'm not sure this is a good time of year to do so.

Portland rocks for food: great seafood. Just south is the upper Willamette pinot noir region of which the northernmost AVAs are friggin' outstanding.

It was beautiful. We spent 4 days in Seaside and 3 in Portland. On the coast we traveled everywhere between Tillamook and Astoria. The weather was mostly perfect except for our first full day there. I ate better than I have in a long time.

Great food truck lineup across the street from the best brewery in the world in Tillamook, De Garde. Ate some great seafood in Cannon Beach. Some of the best Thai food I've had in a long time in Seaside itself.

Portland was stellar. We stayed in the Pearl District and were close to everything. Toki is an amazing Korean fusion place, best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Momoyama was an absolutely phenomenal (and expensive meal). Almost everything was in walking distance. Just beautiful. I wish I had family there or something and more of an excuse to move there.

One of my favorite cities to travel to for work. Some great steakhouses and bars in down town. If you can find a way to get to the Nike Employee store then do it. I've come home with bags and bags full of Nike Goodies.

We've decided to fly into Seattle and stay there for a day or so then catch the train down to Portland and stay there for about 3 days then train it back to Seattle to fly home. Plane tickets are way cheaper into Seattle than they are into Portland.

Our friends across the street moved from Portland, where they were born and raised. They feel sorry for their friends and family who still live there. They talk about it the way people talk about Austin as a place that was cool but is now ruined.

They're kitchen people ("chefs") and they love Tucson and want to open a kind of Rincon Market shop and restaurant in that abandoned mini strip mall on the southeast corner of 5th St and Rosemont.

do you mean the NW corner? There's still a deli there as far as I know. But that would be a good neighborhood bar/market/gastro pub kinda location with the neighborhoods around there.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

i'll just go with fuck asu.

Sorry I meant southeast corner, so catty corner across from Eli's Deli (closed years ago now). It's the dumpy tan colored building. I agree with you. Rincon Market was an institution, but with that gone, and the deriding of Flora's Market ... Run, all the neighborhoods between Poet's Square, east of Craycroft, Speedway, and Broadway have demand for a local corner.

It's a lot of shaky young employees who don't really love and know food. Like you'd expect from the whole August Rhodes/Puff & Pastry operation. Rincon Market was staffed by pros. The meat department now centers around $85 a pound Wagyu steak, instead of the smart sourcing Carl and Rachel managed. The fish department is just stupid. They'll roll their eyes when you mention Yuri because they get that a lot. The bread is a waste of anyone's time. The restaurant side really makes you miss Rincon and everyone who worked there.
