Going next month for Thanksgiving with family but will three extra days for our own exploring, eating, drinking, etc.. Any specific recommendations for eats, drinks, fun?

I was in Austin a couple of months ago, staying at the Fairmont downtown (which was really nice and new) Right next door was a great restaurant called The Moonshine grill. I also hung out nearby on Rainey St which is a really cool area.

Agreed, but be aware it's about a 30 minute drive out in the hill country. Also worth the drive in the hill country is the Family Business Beer Company.

Bar hopping on Rainey Street is a must.

And there's a food truck in Austin (T-Locs) that is run by a UA fan from Tucson...he sells Sonoran hot dogs.
