So this is crazy

If you combine 2012 and 2016 records in Omaha so far it is ridiculous

We are 9-1 with the one loss being a 1-0 loss
We have outscored teams 49 to 14
Our combined ERA is less then 2
Only two games have been decided by 1 run too

Can we play our next Elite 8 game in Omaha????? Literally that place is the exact opposite of Anaheim and the Honda Center for us

I think playing in Hi Corbett has really prepared us well for that ball park. Can you believe now there were many Baseball alumni who were against the move to Hi Corbett. Thank God Byrne did not listen to them

Baseball definitely needs its own Subforum

I doubt it was part of the plan. TD was build the same year the Cats made the move, I don't think anyone knew just how difficult it would be to homer that first year. But it definitely was an advantage for UA.

Coaches can preach hitting line-drives, but the bandboxes some colleges play in don't reward batters for listening.

A lot of these kids are the freshman class post championship 2012. Matured late but the talent was obviously there. Have to give great credit to Lopes for bringing those kids in and JJ and staff for developing them.

Best part of this is how we did it. Not hosting a regional, beating the SEC regular season champ on there own field and then coming out of the losers bracket to get here. It's not done and no one remembers the runner up so let's get it done cats. Would love to see 10k at McKale for there return

And to mirror a few of our other coaches lines, this group has definitely honored the process as we have watched them improve all year long and even in these playoffs have improved. This is a team wuth a definite hard edge who fights when backed in a corner. 6-0 in elimination games is incredible

I have to say it. I just HAVE to say it.

Because of its resiliency this team reminds me of the 97 UA men's basketball team

I love this little "luck" narrative they are using as a security blanket for their failures on the big stage for 3 decades.

So lucky that we were generally considered the most likely team to host a regional yet got shipped to the deep south at a #2 seed with no team west of Lubbock getting to host. While being shipped to Florida would have been worse in theory, being shipped at all was rather unlucky. So we fell somewhere in the middle there, or you might rephrase to say "exactly what was earned", though the argument could be made we were more unlucky by being shipped and having to play anywhere else given our profile. But say we just missed the cut to host...then we deserved a lower #1 seedn

So lucky to have faced 2 of the top 8 seeds in the nation in this run, going 3-0 in those games, including 2-0 at #6 Starkville, where we played because we were not "lucky" enough to have our super-regional national seed eliminated. During that incredible run of "luck" while playing the SEC's 1a or 2 in their own building, we had a massive power outage occur during a masterful performance by our starting pitcher, putting his day in jeopardy. Luckily, the outage wasn't long enough to chase him, I guess, and he finished mowing down that top level/national seed SEC team for another inning.

We were "lucky" to have beat MSU in 2 games, because if we had played them in a 3rd game, we might have lost. Lucky, also, to come back from 4 runs down late to win the series with an 11th inning walkoff. Because, luck allows teams to not fold despite having a game in the pocket in a hostile building.

We were "lucky" enough to field our defensive positions best in the entire CWS. Luck also got us the #1 hitting performance despite facing Miami and the best pitcher in the postseason (Okie State's Hatch). And, of course, having the #1 batting performance is still luck, even though all but one of those teams were better than the teams ASU faced in their quick exit from the postseason.

Luck, luck, luck, luck, luck. Starts to sound like the chatter of a chicken if you say it fast enough.

I thought Jay Johnson would be a great coach and seemed to check all the boxes when he was hired but did anyone ever think this season would happen???

Jay Johnson has the opportunity to be the greatest coach in the history of Arizona Athletics if he keeps this up. What he has done this year is beyond remarkable. To take some of these guys and turn them into these type of players. Speechless

Can you imagine how strong our recruiting is going to be

Man, let's bear down and bring home this national title
I would say Mike Candrea has the greatest coach in the history of Arizona Athletics wrapped up, even though he's on the downside of his career. It is very difficult to match his 8 national championships.
Do not get me wrong, I think Candrea is a God but he also is one of the luckiest coaches at the U of A in terms of the sport he coaches is not played at USC and for many years was an after thought of sport in most of the country. For basically forever he has only had to compete against UCLA for SoCal recruits which is a massive competitive advantage for him compared to other coaches at U of A like football, volleyball, golf, swimming, baseball, etc. One of the biggest competitive advantages our Basketball program has had is the fact USC typically sucks at basketball. One of the reasons I think our football program will always struggle is because of USC football in terms of them gobbling up all the top talent in SoCal with UCLA. He also did not have to deal with the SEC or Big 12 really caring about the sport he played. I mean for many years it was basically him just competing against UCLA. From 1984 through 2007 Arizona or UCLA was either the champion or in the NCAA Finals every year but once. Now things have dramatically changed where the BIG 12 and the SEC has really stepped up as well as other schools in the PAC 12 like Washington, CAL and Oregon. I think now we are seeing that maybe Candrea had some external factors which contributed greatly to his ridiculous amount of success.

Jay Johnson on the other hand took this rag tag group of players, many of whom did not perform well for a Hall of Fame coach, and turned them into legends. I think it is ten times harder in 2016 to win the College world series then it was for Candrea to win say the NCAA Softball title in 1997.

If he wins the Natty this year, I think it has to be our most unbelievable Title. Maybe 1997 for basketball would top it. But this is just crazy to think we are actually even talking about winning a Natty in 2016 for baseball. Even Greg Hansen thinks Jay Johnson is good

If this season is an indication of the type of coach Jay Johnson is, I truly believe he could be on his way to being our greatest coach ever.
Wow. A little over the top there. It's Year 1, man. I just love watching the ride this post season. Awesome. And, dude, get off USC's jock. WTF?

For those of you in the know, what's your take on our current Pitcher status / expected availability for Starters/Closers for the upcoming games? Seems from what I've read, we've really used up a lot of our talent.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Luckily it sounds like CCU is in the same situation with their Pitchers.

BK, I think we are in better shape than CC. Cloney should have 7 innings him if he is effective and I think Ginkel could start game 2 and give us 6. Dalbec should throw game 3 If necessary

Who knows about Bannister. If he rehabs his forearm he might give us some innings out of the pen but it wouldnt surprise me if he starts game 2. Ming should work game 2 and 3 if necessary out of the pen. We still have Deason, Gomez and Rivas who can get guys out that could go 2 or 3 innings in middle relief or should a match up dictate they be in the game.

CC is a good hitting team with 4 guys who have at least 15 Homers each. Thst ballpark in Omaha takes that advantage away a bit as they only have one dinger in the CWS. they do hit a lot of extra base hits though. Both teams are really good in the field and have won in some tough places.

Thanks 49! Interesting to know and will make it more fun to follow...even if only via ESPN box score....one thing that continues to suck about living here is having to miss so many of these UA sports. So that makes these boards that much more important to me.

Thanks again for your input. Bear Down.

Just install kodi on your computer and you can watch every game. You can also get an Amazon Fire stick with kodi preinstalled if you want to watch it on your tv.

By the time I figure out how to do something on Kodi like watch a game or a TV show, I might as well build my own internet. Learning just the vocabulary alone would take years.

To watch ESPN on Kodi, you'd have have to find a plug-in called something like "Particle Hazer" and then command it to do something like "smogger a blunted overside from a pre-populated patch jumper."

Some nuggets to chew on while we wait for the first pitch.

The Pac conference as won 17 titles, more than any other conference and if you bring in the current PAC 12 members that woudl balloon the total to 28

JJ is the 5th coach to take a team to the championship season in his first year. Unfortunately, no first year coach has ever won it

This is CC first trip to the CWS and the could be the first team since Minnesota in 1956 to win the "ship" in their first attempt

CC has won more games and hot more home runs than anyone else in D-1 baseball this year. Also CC's coach has 1,098 victories in is career. Now that's some experience

Excitedly nervous. Anytime you get an opportunity like this you must seize it. Faced too much disappointment with the PAC football championship game, the Fiesta bowl letdown, the final 8 misses. Time for some ultimate joy for us AZ fans, lets get game 1

We got this far without Bobby Dalbec doing shit from the plate. He keeps getting behind early and chases strike three out of the zone. Bobby getting off the Schneid and getting some timely hits would really help out the offense.
