Geez with all these upsets do we have any idea who we will be pitted against in our pod?

We play Miami, and match up with the UCSB/OSU game.

Luck of the draw, luck of the draw...

All ASU has to do is "get hot at the right time." They probably said the same thing after Lute's run in '97.

These are the easy answers ASU fans buy into without understanding the first thing about the formula for success.

They just believe in the Pat Murphy way without understanding the Bobby Winkles-Jim Brock formula that built the model Murphy could supposedly "own" Andy Lopez from.

Johnson is a budding star of a coach, and all ASU fans can come up with in response is having Ray Anderson "market the crap" out of Phoenix Muny?

They couldn't even hang onto Clint Myers in softball, so what makes them think they can build another program like they had in the '70s under coaches with no previous head man experience?

More "get rich quick" BS from EmpTe minds.

Thx. No idea on the other side but that seems like a tough bracket. I would also assume they placed us as a 4 seed given Miami is the national 3 seed and a clear #1 in that pod.

Okie St looks really good and both those other teams come in red hot. Too bad the committee couldn't or wouldn't put the 2 western teams in opposite brackets.

Other pod will have TxTech, UF/FSU, Coastal/LSU, and aTm/TCU. Gonna be 8 great teams, not really sure there's a good/bad bracket this year. I think I have slight preference to ours.

The bracket works just like basketball, we play Miami because (3)Miami/BC was slotted against (6)MSU/UA, regardless of who won (or even survived the regionals). It's just a little different to grasp because of the way they "assign" seeds.

Yes 49, starting out in the winners bracket is huge. So that first game is a biggie.

If Schlereth wasn't hurt and was able to pitch in that series, The Cats would of won it.

The Cats were not ranked when they got to the 2012 World Series and they beat #3Florida State in their first game. Then they beat #2UCLA and Florida State again to get to the championship round. Rankings don't really mean much, the Cats are playing their best ball and I doubt they don't care who they play.

I love the idiotic ASU mantra "the best team doesn't win the college world series..."

So you wish to be the best regular season team? Unclear. Also, you know what else doesn't happen? Teams don't get lucky and get through road trips to regionals and super regionals, have no upsets in front of them, play the highest seed possible each game, and STILL make the CWS. While, technically, the team that wins the CWS might not win a best of 101 game series with another team, they, in every case, won a lot of games to get there. And in our case, we won on the road every time. It is really sad to see someone comfort themselves that their rival only wins titles, and titles aren't always the best team. Looking for those regular season "mythical best team in the nation" banners any day now in Phoenix Muni. "What if we were in their regional?" You'd be home...because if you were good enough to win a 4 team regional on the road then go beat the #6 national seed, you would have done it instead of playing some Linus's blanket game of "what if?"

I love the list, too. "All we need to do is get better coaching, better players, get more people involved, spend more money, get rid of rap (yeah...old people are the best base to build with), develop a national power, and then win games, we will totally be the best regular season team in the country, which is what we want because everyone knows the best team doesn't win the CWS."

Honestly...that post makes me feel so much better than begrudged respect. It reminds me why their fan base fights all the time, drifts away shortly after school, and cannot organize for shit. The core ASU baseball fan is still the Phoenix guy from before pro sports who rooted for the home team and may have taken a few classes there or eventually got a degree.

Yeah Asu baseball still draws an ok crowd but it's a wispy shadow of itself from before the days of the NHL, MLB and NFL being in Phoenix. Asu's baseball heyday was the mid 60s to mid 80s. When the only pro team was the suns yet the population base of Phoenix was growing along with asu's money, fan base and recruiting ability. Hasn't been the same since pro sports came to town with their last title being in 1981.

So south Carolina, MSU, LSU and Texas A&M all lost their home super regionals. So much for the sec. Sec had I believe 6 or 7 teams hosting regionals and 5 hosting super regionals and will either have 0 or 1 team in the college world series

Random question but why does baseball only have 8 national seeds and softball has 16?? the tournament is set up the exact same way outside of that and I don't understand why.

Not sure if it is the reason, but I know sometimes teams don't bid for regionals but will if they make the supers. Used to be you could see a 1 seed go to a 2 seed in the regional because the 1 seed didn't want to bid/lose money on a regional. We did that once right before HiC, where we were going to bid on a Super if we made it but passed on the region and got shipped as the #1. So maybe to make sure the best teams get the Super Regional, but not a host that was a lesser seed, but I am not sure. Even then, you could still make the non hosting #1 a super seed in case they get to the supers.

So not sure...

Actually, in thinking about it, it makes sense to have 8, since the bracket is supposed to create 16 regional winners, with the 8 seeds being the hosts if all goes to plan. I guess they want flexibility if two teams below 8 face off.

I've lived in the south, and it's hot and humid for sure, but it really doesn't compare to 113+ weather in Tucson or Phoenix. The feeling of that sun on your body at that temp. Brutal.

Several SEC rags analyzing the CWS have AZ as the 7th best team and sight a so so offense with no standout arms. They say our guys have been used to much and a few said we will be two and out.

They said Miami is #2 behind Florida but they have not been impressive to me given they are a 10 loss team only. Hardly dominated in any aspect of the game.

Assume Bannister earned the right to go tomorrow but Ginkel hasn't pitched now in two weeks so he should be ready early
