Looks like it will be Ole Miss.

My other favorite school, ECU, has a tough Super Regional in Nashville against Vandy. I will watch those games on mute because of the annoying Vanderbilt whistle guy.

12-7 Ole Miss in the 5th. Both teams are just going yard! Maybe we shouldn’t count So. Miss out just yet

So Miss just left the bases loaded. Saw Ole Miss ace. A guy named Nichazy who is a lefty. Came in a blew away a guy on three pitches. Dude had 47 SO’s in his last 27 innings.

He pitches in that overrated SEC.

Wait until he comes to Tucson and faces us.

He threw 119 pitches on Saturday, I hope he gets into the 50s today. I know he's a young college kid but that's still gotta wear on you for coming back Friday night vs us. And he's given up 2 homers already. Too bad not one with the bases loaded.

Ole Miss' only other good SP was lost for the season to Tommy John surgery so they will be using Nichazy as much as possible.

I also thought Johnson out coached himself by having Dalbec bunt.

11 straight pitches that were called balls. Loaded the bases via walks and then threw a wild pitch to score the go ahead run. Then he pipes one and the kid takes him yard. Man Nebraska just imploded and really blew a golden opportunity

So here's how I've got it:

North Carolina St at 1.) Arkansas
South Florida at 2.) Texas
Oregon or LSU at 3.) Tennessee
East Carolina at 4.) Vanderbilt
Mississippi at 5.) Arizona
Notre Dame at 7.) Mississippi St
Stanford or UC Irvine at 8.) Texas Tech
Virginia or Old Dominion vs. Dallas Baptist @ TCU (Maybe)

Regarding the SEC. Yeah, they've performed, with 6 teams (not named Florida) in the Supers. But, that's not the point. Put the same number of Pac-12 schools in and see how they'd do. The Oregon schools fell short by an eyelash. As we've learned over the years in the NCAA basketball tournament, first you have to get in and then you have to have an advantageous situation if you're expected to perform well. It helps if you're Duke basketball and you never have to leave your home state for early round games. And it hurts if you're a West Coast team and you're shipped to the frozen wastelands of Buffalo with a three hour time difference. If you're judging conference performance, it helps the more teams you get in, just like it helps if a breeder gets a lot of horses in a particular horse race. It becomes statistical probability at some point. So, to amplify Lev's points today, when the starting point of SOS and RPI gives one conference a massive advantage, and other conferences are put at a big disadvantage (I'll include the Big West and Big XII as sharing our misery), it's impossible to make up over the course of a season. Let's see the Pac-12, Big West, and Big XII try to crash the party of the committee that sets the completely arbitrary initial SOS and RPI in college baseball for a season and flip the script on the SEC. SEC honks would be screaming from the courthouse steps with axe handles and pitch forks, burning crosses, filing amicus briefs, and threatening insurrection. And the NCAA doesn't care, as long as they keep getting checks from the schools hosting regionals, and from the ESPN family of networks.

Both Oregon schools really blew it. OSU was up 5-0 and just collapsed. Oregon lost its catcher and had to play its backup guy and a passed ball ended up being the winning run for LSU.

Some of the regionals were very talent heavy while others (Notre Dame) were a joke. You have to expend a lot of pitches to get through a weekend and with only 3 or 4 western regionals it makes it tough on these west coast teams.

I do think the conference can get two through to Omaha and that both can show well there. Hopefully we put a beating on Ole Miss but they do have some good arms

Agree. Both Oregon schools choked.

But I'm giving more of a pass to OSU because they were on the road against a Texas school in Texas and they had to win 2 games to get it done which they fell short.

Oregon was at home in the drivers seat with a 2-0 record and let a mediocre LSU team beat them twice. That's not acceptable.

Listened to an Ole Miss podcast and my oh my is the Rebel faithful confident about their Chances this weekend. Not surprising I guess but they talked about how west coast teams don’t know what they are getting into with SEC teams. They mentioned UCLA in 2011 with Bauer and Cole and how they thought they were the greatest ever but yet South Carolina won it all, of course they failed to mention we beat that same team in 2012.

They kind of ran down Silseth, who hasn’t pitched well of late and they think their coach will move Nichazy to Saturday and pitch Diamond Friday night and that we haven’t faced an offense like theirs.

None of these guys were coaches or players so I certainly understood while listening that this was from a fan perspective but talk about not doing your home work.

Listen, we know we have a good team. Strengths are our hitting and bullpen. Starting pitching has been up and down, and defense as improved from pretty bad earlier in the season.

But no way we can take Ole Miss lightly. We can be beaten. If we play our game and be patient I really like our chances.

Nikhazy is their ace. He pitched a lot last weekend. Their closer Broadway is good as well. After them their pitching is shaky at best and I would hope our offense can capitalize. They lost their number two pitcher to Tommy John earlier in the season.

Those two guys likely would in the minor leagues had they had more than 5 rounds in the draft.

Given the guys who had the extra year and these freshman who might have gone to MLB baseball it’s no wonder we had the season we did

Some predictions

NO. 12 OLE MISS AT NO. 5 ARIZONA
(Photo: © Gary Cosby Jr. via Imagn Content Services, LLC, USA TODAY Sports)

If this series goes the distance, it's going to turn into a home run derby out in the Arizona heat. The reason why Ole Miss gets the nod here is that it has by far the best starting pitcher out of these two staffs: crafty left-hander Doug Nikhazy, who is one of the nation's best. Ole Miss should be able to win Game 1 with Nikhazy on the mound, and then it's a matter of finding a way to win one out of the final two. These last two games could easily have 11-10 type of scores.
Arizona had the Pac-12's best offense by a mile and has a whopping nine regulars hitting over .300. The Wildcats might be the best offensive team in the country. Ole Miss is elite too, though, especially with Tim Elko back in the lineup and slugging away with a torn ACL. Jacob Berry and Daniel Susac will make their fair share of plays at the plate, to be sure.

Odds

Arkansas +180
Vanderbilt +450
Texas +500
Tennessee +600
Mississippi State +1200
Texas Tech +1500
Arizona +1700
Notre Dame +1800
Stanford +2000
Ole Miss +2200
Dallas Baptist +3000
Virginia +3000
ECU +3300
LSU +3300
NC State +5000
South Florida +6000

More predictions

No. 12 Ole Miss (44-20) at No. 5 Arizona (43-15)
Aria Gerson, The Tennessean: Ole Miss. What better way to continue the legend of Tim Elko and his one ACL?

Glenn Guilbeau, The Daily Advertiser: Ole Miss. Coach Mike Bianco brings the best Skip Bertman imitation in America to Omaha once again.

Tyler Horka, The Clarion Ledger: Arizona. Ole Miss' pitching in the postseason has been a pleasant surprise for the Rebels, but Arizona's No. 2 run-producing offense in the country will be too much for Ole Miss to handle.

Nick Suss, The Clarion Ledger: Arizona. No Power Five team scores more runs or has more hits than Arizona. That offense is too much for Ole Miss' thin pitching to take in the desert.

I want to watch this apparent pitching god Nichazy and slowly wear him down like we did to that UCSB starter who was also billed as someone that was going to shut us down.

I love how our hitters 1-9 work the count and make starters throw a lot of pitches. Eventually, that leads to good things.

They don’t reseed them. It works like the women’s World Series. The left side of the regional bracket becomes Bracket 1 at CWS, and the right side becomes Bracket 2. If you end up falling into the loser’s bracket, you flip sides.

The winner of our Super starts out playing the winner of Vandy’s Super.

So on the opposite side you only have two seeded teams, Tennessee and Mississippi St. In the bottom half of that bracket Tennessee actually wouldn’t play a seeded team unless it went chalk to that bracket final.

On our side you have a bunch of chalk. We would get Vandy then possibly Arkansas in the bracket final

Yep. But weird, weird things happen in the CWS.

Right now, we just need to get past Ole Miss. My hope is that them having to play Monday then travel may give us an edge. Their pitchers threw a lot more than ours in regionals so hopefully that helps.
