The STDs get a couple on but the Cats keep them there. After two it's still tied at zeros.

Matijevic with a 2 run double puts the Cats up 3-1 then the STD's with a solo shot in the bottom of the 5th. Cats 3-2 with ASSu still batting.

Coach Johnson is the man. Score 2 on a sacrifice bunt then the Cats get another on an error. 6-3 Good Guys top 7.

You just don't see this everyday. Either JJ is an offensive genius or he can flat coach execution.

That runner on 2nd knew he was going and it was either perfect and score or your meat. ASSU defended it was well as possible but this was perfectly drawn up from both sides.

This game was MLB worthy to watch. Big big win

2 RBI squeeze.

I have seen it all with Arizona baseball. The ridiculous furor last year by the MLB idiots in the booth bunting our #3 (because MLB egos don't allow for players to do what is right over what they like to do...note the switch that could be destroyed with a single bunt) changed nothing, and I love it. I love this style of ball...80's St Louis Cardinals baseball (I was not a Cardinals fan, but loved the style).

2. RBI. Squeeze. To beat the Scummies.

Absolutely unreal play. Perfect execution and perfect recognition of the situation and the strength of your players. Small ball is what makes college baseball so fun.

With that win we clinch the baseball territorial cup. That is a win in all 3 major season sports. Banner year for sure in that regard.

Don't think they do the state farm cup but I wonder if we won overall? I would think we won in volleyball and softball as well. Anyone know?

In 2016-17, ASU won series points in men's cross country, men's swimming, gymnastics, men's golf, women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track, men's and women's outdoor track, volleyball (half point), women's basketball (half point) and beach volleyball (half point).

Arizona's 2016-17 points are in football, men's basketball, soccer, women's cross country, women's swimming, women's golf, softball, volleyball (half point), women's basketball (half point) and beach volleyball (half point).

What, no points for ASU in ballroom dancing?

The bullpen made it way more interesting than it needed to be (as usual), but Arizona pulled off the sweep with a 9-5 win. We're now sitting #15 in the RPI and are in position to host with one last homestand against Cal. Honestly we probably need to sweep to host, but obviously have to win the series at the very worst.

So it looks like a 2 player race for PAC 12 POY. Matijevic and the kid from the 27 win Oregon St team. JJ is 2 Homers from leading in every triple crown stat. Both are deserving but this might be an interesting vote from the coaches

Thank you! I knew it. It ain't on ESPN scores or schedule. And I might add: WHAT A STEAL! Man. If I lived down there, I'd be going to Hi Corbett a lot. What are normal prices for tickets for the Cats down there at Hi Corbett? Like during the regular season. Do they go up for hosting regional?

GA tickets to the Utah series and one of the non-confs were $8 each. Those were the only times I was in town, but I don't think baseball does variable pricing?

Well that would suck. So much for the old rule of not raiding your former schools coaches. They can certainly out bid us pay wise but hopefully JJ doesn't want to step over all of the SEC and ACC for players where out west he has just the PAC schools and a couple of big west schools to battle.

Two thoughts on that:

1. That would certainly be a lateral move at best (being hugely optimistic). I personally think that's a much worse job than Arizona. It doesn't have the recent success, nor the overall success. While it competes in the wildly overrated SEC (benefit), that means he's competing against major powers for recruiting. While attendance and atmosphere might be better than Arizona, it wouldn't be a huge difference. JJ is so strong recruiting the west coast, Bama isn't a great spot to land.

2. If that did happen, then I'd hope for GB to get crushed by the Craig Carter story. I'll save my full thoughts for if this actually happens though.

Plus, I imagine every sport at Bama lives deep in the shadow of football. At the UofA baseball is a historically successful and popular non-revenue sport, close to Johnson's traditional recruiting contacts. JJ has a good thing going where he is.

I hope this rumor is from nothing more than people connecting the dots:

1. GB fired Bama's baseball coach (for pulling scholarships, an NCAA rules violation)
2. JJ is a successful baseball coach hired by GB at UA.
3. Bama now needs a baseball coach.
4. Dots connected.

Kind of like this Lev guy. He asks some good tough questions, especially in football to RR. Think he covered USC in football for awhile so he has that big program edge about him IMO.

Glad to hear JJ's thoughts and glad he asked. Hope he stays like Kindall, Sancet and Lopez did

JJ is a total west coast guy, isn't he? Picking up and moving to Alabama would seem like a weird move. I get they can offer more money but everything else is a step back.

Baseball is such a regional sport...everything Jay has done has been West Coast. Look at the meltdown at ASU...they hired a coach that did the impossible and turned Indiana into a national threat, and he has been disastrous (both bench coaching and getting players in to help).

I would think Bama would be better off trying to find their Jay Johnson at one of those regional baseball powers that has no other resources like Lafayette or, dare I say, Coastal Carolina. It isn't a huge sport at Bama, and I would imagine we can spend pretty good to counter...is GB willing to dump money into a baseball hire at Bama ? I know they have money to burn, but if Jay can't recruit the south and can't pull western kids to Bama, it would look horrible for his first real hire.

Yeah this is where I'm at with it. Jay has been a life long west coast guy and while sure Bama could pay him more, he's in for much more competition not only with SEC schools, but ACC schools right next door, and even smaller schools who consistently do well and pull talent in the area like Louisiana Lafayette. All these schools have staffs with extensive southeast recruiting ties. Jay could take the Bama job and hire a very effective staff of course, but I just don't see it. Jay is certainly in for another increase in pay though and Heeke being the baseball guy that he is I'm sure will come through with that.
