Nardi can’t even get out of the first inning. 3-0 NMST. We get one and strand a guy at third

Sherman looked pretty good that inning. Maybe these arms just need to mature?

Dyer crushes one and we get only one after NMST has not one, but two web gems to cost us runs

Good news is the Cats won 14-10. Bad news is that Matt Fraizer, who has probably been our best player all year, is out indefinitely with a broken hamate bone. We can't have nice things.

Sure sounded like there were a lot of UA fans at Jackie Robinson Stadium Friday night. Unfortunately, after the nice start in the first, not much to get too happy about.

So cats lose 10-5 and really never was in it. Question is how are we playing these series. It’s obvious we have no Friday night guy or maybe we just don’t have 3 starters. Looks like we are backloading the series with our best two starters.

Both those guys are capable but we are going to lose every Friday night of the conference season. Why not move Flanagan to Fridayand move Collins up and throw LaBaut and the rest on Sunday

Truthfully it's a shame we're wasting Cameron Cannon, Nick Quintana, Matt Fraizer, and probably Dyer as well for this year with the dreadful pitching we have. One can only hope with the huge influx of new pitchers we have coming in next year that that changes, but man it's really bad out there and it's not as if Jay hasn't made attempts to fix it via recruiting either.

So Nardi (and his +10 era and +2 WHIP) going today instead of Collins? I am assuming JJ used him in relief yesterday? Is there no roles on this pitching staff?

Well Nardi was dealing only giving up 2 hits through 6. Unfortunately the first guy he faced in the 7th went yard. I would assume the flood gates open up as JJ will be making a change when the next hitter gets on. We only have 1 hit so far

Tied it at 1 in our half of the 8th but our shitty pitching allowed a hit followed by a dinger. Two straight nights we gave up a pair in the bottom of the 8th to lose.

After getting swept and losing two straight in the 8th the cats went to San Diego St for a Monday night game. Go to the bottom of the 8th and we have a 4-3 lead but you guessed it, we gave up 3 and we end up losing 6-4.

Go to ASSU who is not 21-1 and look very good. Chances of dropping 7 straight are very real. That would also put us at 2-7 in the conference. Things are not good in cat land

People here have such short memories. Even though Johnson got the Cats to the final game of the World Series with mostly Andy's recruits, he still got them there. There was no guarantee if Lopez was the coach of that team, they would of made it that far.

Johnson has won everywhere he has been, including here and no way does he deserve to be fired. If there were message boards in the late 80's and 90's, I am sure there would be a lot of people who would of wanted Kindall fired. Heck, there are people on the softball board that want Candrea to retire, saying the game has passed him. It's ridiculous, especially that these guys are coaching sports that do not generate money.

We all have to be patient. I will still support the team even though they are not having a good year. Bear Down!

Short memories

Jay coached basically two years at Nevada and really only had one good year there which he leveraged into his job here

He is in way over his head

He is not a good coach. There is no reason our baseball program should ever be this bad with our tradition, facilities, weather, fan support etc

Arizona always hold on to coaches WAY too long. People in Tucson hate change. Always been that way

Shit, Arizona brought back a Mackovic for another year after the entire team revolted against him

Johnson and his staff sucks big time

Being a fan of Arizona does not mean I will blindly support coaches who suck

You can go to uasports.net with that attitude Irish. They will listen to you there

To give this some basis, Newport is the guy they would chase Miller yesterday and replace him with a guy who hasn’t coached 1 game in college :) (luv ya, just don’t agree)

Yes for sure I would

I would have also fired Niya about 4 years earlier

I would have fired Rich Rod after we went 3&9

I would have fired Stoops after the Alamo Bowl loss

I would fire Dave Rubio now and move on from him

I would fire Sumlin now if they had the buyout money

I would have fired our swimming coach two years earlier

I would have fired our tennis coach much earlier too then they did

I would not have allowed Lute to Unretire the second time and come back

In college athletics it’s all about momentum in recruiting and maximizing the talent you get. It’s about marketing a story to the fan base where the future appears better then both the past or present. It’s why it’s so easy to get behind Adia right now and why I think it’s time to move on from Miller

Very clear Jay Johnson does a poor job maximing talent based on the last three years. Also clear any momentum our program had after 2016 is gone.

To me then you fire that person and move on.

At Arizona though we let coaches drive our programs into the ground until we then even think about making a switch in coaching. I think it’s ones of the reasons our entire athletics program has struggled greatly in the last ten years and dropped like a rock in national athletic program rankings

We “support” our coaches and use that as a badge of honor as a fan base

Watch we are going to keep jay hoping he digs himself out of things and it will cause our baseball program to hit rock bottom when we should never ever struggle like this given the structural advantages we have

When in your estimation should have ASU had fired Tracy Smith considering now that his team only has 1 loss on the season at this point. After consecutive shit seasons prior.

Rubio? Best coach we have ever had in an ultra competitive volleyball league. That would be a terrible move. You would hire a former player like Rosie Wegrich. Oops, she was terrible and buried the program only to have Rubio dig it out from the abyss

Tracy Smith was a far more accomplished head coach then Jay Johnson is first off

You want to give coaches five years, fine but clear Jay is on a downward trend.

He is just not a good coach

Coaches like Tracy smith pulling off miracles in year 5 are rare

And I think we lose some of our better players next year, tough to see us getting better. With ASU they had youth last two years that has grown well

Fuck yes, would have fired him a long time ago as he peaked with Kim Glass and been downhill to average since

We are no doubt in a tough conference but we have no momentum, recruiting is stagnant and it’s time for a change

Change is good

I mean you guys realize our athletic department rankings are complete shit to what they used to be right

We lose Cannon and replace him with Dooney, lose Fraizer and replace him with Donta Williams, which is already occurring due to Fraizer's injury, lose Quintana and replace him with Bullard. I'm not worried about the bats. Pitching has got to figure it out.

Part of making AZ an attractive place to coach is to allow the coaches time to build their program and one would expect some ups and downs in a sport where you get 11.7 scholarships a year.

Missing one tourney (soon to be two) In his tenure is not enough to pull the plug. Given we do need to see an uptick but all of this is pitching, or the lack there of. Smith got it done at Indiana and JJ got it done at San Diego and Nevada and got us to the championship series.

While you may be ultimate right in your evaluation, the above outline of your moves would not create a harmonious culture of winning in an athletic department. Win or be fired never works as if you Measure results as the final judge only, then you can’t see the forest through the tree’s

Arizona baseball is a marquee job. You act like it’s arizona soccer or football. We have won 4 national championships, best in class facilities, unreal perfect baseball weather, great tradition, good in state talent, and top notch fan support. We literally have everything working in our favor. That’s what makes it an attractive job

This is not a job where someone should get many years to build a program. Missing two tournaments in a row should be plenty to be fired with pitching as bad as we have had. Our program keeps getting worse not better

also Jay wasn’t the head coach at San Diego so he deserves no credit for getting it done there

He had one good season at Nevada as a head coach that’s it

Also doing the opposite of what I have suggested have given us a piss poor athletic department lately. A department that is a shell of its former self during the 90’s. We have not had a harmonious culture of winning at all.

Shake the shit up and fire coaches far faster then we have done

Sports are a results orientated business. You are not consistently winning...later

Especially in a sport like Arizona baseball. Look Arizona soccer, give a coach more time. But Arizona baseball you can easily recruit top 10 classes year after year

That’s where jays poor coaching is even more evident. We have recruited well but our team sucks

Well Lopes would have been fired then before he got us ttgst fourth ship. I do question JJ’s ability to identify and develope a Friday night guy. In 4 years he hasn’t done that do I am concerned. I think more JUCO help would be the way to go but I do think he has a shorter rope due to what you said so let’s see how the next two years pan out

Outside of that one year where we caught lighting in a bottle, Lopes was not some amazing coach

But I fault him less as our facilities and fan support were both very weak compared to where they are now

Now there really are no excuses

Up in Tempe the cats have had the lumber out and led 4-0, 7-3 untill the fell behind 15-10 I think. They battled back and went ahead 16-15 in the top half of the 8th and Weems cane in and gave up a run in the bottom of the 8th to tie it 16-16. We couldn’t score and it is now in the bottom of the 9th tied. I think we all know how this will end

That play by Cannon in the 9th may have been the dumbest fielding mistake I've ever seen.

ASU wins on a fucking routine ground ball that we couldn't field. I can stomach pitching being an issue, but fielding cost us this game. Fucking terrible.
