2022 Season

Based on exactly one fall exhibition game and a few of my notes, here's a way-too-early stab at a lineup. Some caveats are that I was surprised to not see O'Tremba, Paugh, or Blas. Don't know if I missed any off-season news about any of them, if it's a case of the itinerant nature of college baseball doling out scholarships in 1/5 increments, or if Chip just wanted to look at others. I remember way back in the day we had a nice freshman 3B named Dave Page, who I thought might have a decent shot at pro ball. But, he gave it up after just one year for one reason or another.

LF Mac Bingham
SS Nik McGlaughry
C Daniel Susac
1B Noah Turley (Yavapai CC)
CF Chase Davis
3B Tony Bullard
RF Kyle Casper
2B Jack Grant
DH Tyler Casagrande

I'd guess Garrett Irvin as our #1, with T.J. Nichols, Dawson Netz or Ian Churchill, and the New Mexico St transfer Holden Christian as the closer.

Churchill & Blas aren't on the team any more. Paugh and O'Tremba were held out of the game for minor injuries and I'd assume one of them or Casagrande will get the nod in RF unless Casper surpasses them. Also Chandler Murphy will very likely be a starter.

Who is going to play Second base? Did Blass exhaust his eligibility?

Choo, have we signed any arms that you like?

It’s still very much an open competition at second. Jack Grant, Garen Caulfield, Luis Tuero, and even possibly Tyler Casagrande are in the mix for the job. As far as Blas goes he had more eligibility, but just seemed to call it a career instead.

Josh Randall is going to be a beast for us at pitcher. Holden Christian will make a difference as well as Cat pointed out. Anthony Susac is still recovering from an arm surgery, but after he’s fully recovered he will also be a beast, but may be a year out from that sort of status. I think Ethan Voss will be a good one with time as well.

Thanks for the updates Greg! Kinda lost track of baseball the last few months until last week when it popped up in my head as I grabbed the gloves with my 6 year old

A lot of the guys loved Arizona for Arizona. I still can't get over Jacob Berry, an Arizona kid, bolting to follow Jay. Literally makes me sick to my stomach.

D1baseball.com's educated prediction for our lineup at this point:

C- Daniel Susac
1B - Noah Turley
2B - Garen Caulfield
3B - Tony Bullard
SS - Nik McClaughry
LF - Mac Bingham
CF - Chase Davis
RF - Tyler Casagrande
DH - Tanner O'Tremba

Friday Starter - Garrett Irvin
Saturday Starter - TJ Nichols
Sunday Starter - Chandler Murphy
Closer - Holden Christian

Welp lol. Either Tonko Susac or Dawson Netz get the Sunday spot now probably. Arizona has TONS of midweek games, so the starter for those games should be interesting.

Wow, I am surprised Davis was moved to LF. I thought with his speed he would be the guy to run down those balls? I have to guess Bingham is faster which surprises me.

O’Tremba is a stick and we need his bat in the line up every game.

As you said Choo, we look good for this year but it’s two or three years out that will tell the tale on Chip. He has had a bunch of guys commit? Thoughts or is it to early?

Bingham is most definitely a speedster. I guess they figured to give CF to the guy with most experience at this level.

Eh I'm not overly impressed with recruiting so far. Way too many Arizona guys and not of the high end variety. There certainly are some solid guys, but it's still an incomplete at the moment to me. Oddly enough our best recruiting so far IMO is out of the Midwest. Meanwhile fucking Jay Johnson is cleaning up down in the Bayou.

O’Tremba may be the DH. That would put him at the plate every game.

Well we know JJ is a relentless recruiter and recruiting to LSU has to be pretty easy.

Just sucks we were his stepping stone and that he really showed little class in taking Berry and a few of the recruits.

Hoping the Chipster can turn up the heat on higher ranked guys. Would suck if we end up being a .500 program and just get in the playoffs now and again.

Really hoping that Hale can sustain what JJ did. Brown did great and JJ seemed on his way to a title after he got the pitching issues in recruiting solved.

I think Lawn is solid and it seems Chip is listening to him. Question is are we in on the right guys. Time will tell but this year should be fun

Opening day lineup. I’m not sure if Bullard is injured or if this is strategic.
