Damnit. Just as I got my stream working.

For anyone who doesn't have PAC-12 Network and is looking to stream, I found a new way.

Use a VPN, and connect to a server in another country.

Then go to the PAC-12 International channel on YouTube.

Ucla worked their pitching staff like that was a playoff game, and it got them the W.

Still we put in a good fight and we can take the series today. Here's hoping :)

Bowen hits a homer to put the Cats up 1-0 and then Malia hits a 2-run homer. Cats up 3-0 in the top of the third

Amazing to think that just maybe they go caught looking ahead to UCLA thus the sweep at home by UDub. Great series win. 6seed maybe?

I like that the Cats game starts at 8:30PM. That means it's 11:30PM back east. Not a lot of time for Harvard to get adjusted to the time zone change, especially if they arrive on Thursday.

If I'm Candrea I start Gina Snyder vs Harvard with Hanah Bowen on standby, Taylor vs AU/CSU, Denham game 1 of the finals and Taylor if needed for game 2.

Candrea never does that. He pitches his #1 starter in game one of the regionals.

I'm aware, but I think it'd be silly to throw Taylor vs an Ivy league school.

True, but the game is changing, and the days of the #1 powering through the regional are nearly over.

Candrea has shown a lot more flexibility here, going deep to the bench in a huge series with UCLA. Of course, his most well-known pitching sub, sadly, may be pulling Danielle for Tay when Danielle had pulled it together and we were 3 outs from OKC.

But so many teams regularly throw 2 and even 3 pitchers. I understand you have to win the first one, but seeding is also there for a reason, and you earned your way to #1. If the choice is Tay in that game or Tay in game 2 or 3, I think you have to shift with the winds of the game.

I hope he sees it that way. But you can also pull a pitcher and re-insert, so maybe Tay or Alyssa and pull if we jump up early.

I'm strongly of the notion that if you can't beat Harvard with your #2 pitcher, you're going to have a lot of problems anyways. Including, potentially, that I'd rather have my #1 in an elimination game 2 than my #2 going.

Sadly, my HS baseball career ended by setting up our pitching 2-1-2-1 for 4 playoff games and having it not work out. But I still think that's the better way to do it.

I think you answered your own question.

You always start your ace in the first game because 1-0 is 1000x better in double elimination than 0-1. If you go 0-1 then you are playing elimination games the rest of the way so no margin for error.

Maybe I'm confused but I wasn't really wondering about it. I say start #2. Even more in this double elimination setup because really, starting 2-0 is all that matters. In terms of pitching and games, there's no practical difference between losing game 1 or losing game 2. It's all mental and how losing game 1 is hyped up as major thing.

However, there is an argument that you'd rather throw your #1 in game 3 on a full day's rest.
