2020 Season thread

The Cats should be one of the favorites to get back to Oklahoma City, but they do have some questions. Can Denham be a #1 pitcher and will Candrea bring in a transfer pitcher? Also, who will play first and will Mulipola make the Olympic team?

Ryan Kelapire wrote an article about next year's team. He mentions maybe Harper playing first. If she can play first, I like that idea. https://www.azdesertswarm.com/softball/ ... ats-roster" target="_blank

Caylan Arnold from Tennessee has put her name in the transfer portal. I wonder if Candrea will be interested in her. She can play immediately and would give the Cats a solid veteran pitcher. I would take a chance due to her experience and that she has pitched in one of the toughest conferences.

I've heard a rumor about a much better pitcher from a big school in a big conference will be transferring and we will be majorly involved. If true it should come out in a week or 2. This pitcher is much better than Arnold. Also if this transfer doesn't work out I'd go with Brooke Yanez from UC Davis over Arnold as well.

I'm impressed that you folks are so knowledgeable about college softball.

I saw Baylee Klingler is transferring. She would start right away at first base. The next couple of weeks will be very interesting.

This is the only Arizona site that has any meaningful info on sports other than basketball/football.

Chardonnay Harris Auburn is transferring. Since she pitched here in the regionals, maybe she was impressed enough to give the UofA a look.

Sooner fans reporting pitcher Mariah Lopez is transferring. If Candrea could get her to the UofA, she would be the #1 starter.

This is the transfer I was referring to earlier. Arizona is absolutely in pursuit.

She's actually their #2 hence why she's transferring. She wants to be a 1.

Lopez was not happy that Giselle Juarez, the asu transfer became the Sooner's #1 pitcher. Even though Lopez committed to Oklahoma in the 10th, I read Candrea was recruiting her.

We were a finalist for her and she was part of the OC Batbusters, which is the club team roughly 90% of our roster played on, so the connections are deep. I'm confident if Candrea really wants her still he will land her.

Would someone need to lose a scholarship for her to come aboard?

Softball is like baseball, there's roughly 13 or so scholarships split up amongst the entire team.

15 returning players + 3 incoming freshmen = 18 players for 13 (or so) scholarships. Someone's piece of the pie is going to get smaller.

Softball gets 13 and baseball gets 12? Explain that to me. It’s not like softball runs out a long relief pitcher and a closer?

Also what is the rule for max scholarships. Football is 25 a year with 85 on the roster. Basketball is 13 max regardless of class. If you get 12 or 13 a year sounds like you could have a great roster. Is it 12 or 13 to field an entire roster?

If it’s 12 total at anyone time that’s a joke to field a baseball team.

softball gets 12, not 13

Welp barring a transfer Izzy Pacho and Sharlize Palacios will be battling for the starting catcher spot.

I think the Cats will be fine having Izzy and Sharlize behind the plate next year. I don't live too far from Ironwood Ridge and saw Izzy play during her senior year. I was very impressed with her batting and believe she can play in the Pac-12, even though she did not get to play much her freshman season for obvious reasons.

Sharlize comes from an athletic family and read she can play first too, so maybe Candrea could play her at both positions.

Finally, I am hoping Mariah Lopez will choose the Cats. Thinking we should hear something in the near future.

If they didn't have to sit out a year (intraconference transfers are required to sit out a year unlike interconference transfers) it would make a lot of sense with our holes at catcher (if Dejah makes the U.S. team) and 1B.

Nope, just one. I think Dejah was just being modest about her chances of making the team (which are really high).

I'm happy for her. Great honor representing your country. I think Izzy and Sharlize will both do a good job.Izzy has some experience and Sharlize brings the power. Btw, two UCLA players made the team, Rachel Garcia and Bubba Nickles.
