They were a joy to watch today. We have owned ASU this series and that never gets old.

What a difference a year makes. Looks like Silva might be the #2 starter behind Netz.

Cats take care of New Mexico State in game one 10-0. Somerndike pitched a 2-hit shutout, striking out 6. Dimler hit two homers, Skaggs and Netz each added one.

Cats lost to Utah tonight but the bigger news is Scupin is out 4-6 weeks.

UCLA wins 14-5 and gets the sweep. The Cats rank #1 in most offensive category's in the Pac-12, but pitching has been the problem. Just like the baseball team, I would think there will be a new pitching coach for next year.

Cats get swept by Oregon and now they have lost 13 straight Pac-12 games. In today's game, the Cats blew a 4-0 lead. It was 4-3 going to the bottom of the 6th and Lowe brings in Blanchard of all pitchers. Oregon scores 4, that puts them up for good.

This is even more embarrassing than when Baseball was on their losing streak. Let's just admit Candrea made a mistake and move on from Lowe already.

Love definitely was not my number one choice to replace Candrea, but I don't think she is the problem, it's the pitching. I know many here wanted Mowatt to be Candrea's replacement, but the pitching has not been good. I think Silva has a chance to be good, but can Mowatt be that coach to make her a better pitcher? In my opinion, no. As with all college teams, there should be a lot of movement with this program in the offseason.

They just lost to a team that had 12 wins coming into the game against us. We've lost 14 Pac-12 games in a row. It's not just pitching at this point.

I have been following this program since 1988 and it sucks seeing how this team is playing. It's not only pitching, but pitching has been the biggest problem. The offense ranks #1 or close to the top in most of the Pac-12 offensive categories. Pitchers have not been getting better like at some other places. I don't know much about the other programs, but I do keep up with Oklahoma since they are one of the elite programs. Nicole May is one of the best pitchers in the nation and she has gotten better every year. Auburn's ace Maddie Penta has also improved the last three years. It would be nice to see Arizona pitchers get better. I thought Netz was going to be better after her run late last season, but she did not take that jump. She actually got worse.

It will be interesting next year with Ryan Maddox coming in. I am hoping she will be the difference maker. I would like to see them bring in a pitcher from the transfer portal, but someone who has had success against the top programs. Can't look at Ivy league schools for the answer.

Lowe's job is safe right now. She was Candrea's pick and she did get them to the World Series last year. When any sports team has a bad season, it seems an assistant coach is the person that gets let go. I liked Mowatt as a player and was happy when she was hired, but if this team had a pitcher who could average giving up less than two runs a game, the win total would be a lot higher. Below are this year's pitching stats:

Netz 12-13 3.52 ERA
Silva 2-3 4.34 ERA
Somerndike 4-1 3.98 ERA
Hardy 1-1 4.32 ERA
Blanchard 6-3 5.09 ERA

The above stats are not going to win as many games that this program is used to getting. Most likely Candrea will have a say in any offseason move.

Hoping this team can get some wins to make the postseason, but right now it's not looking good.

The 5-0 run in the post-season last year to get to OKC was quite a surprise after the 8-16 conference season. And this year, they're sitting at 3-16. I'm not convinced it's a great idea to try to maintain continuity and keep things in the family, rather than getting the best coach from wherever that you can get. It's great that we got Adia Barnes for WBB, but she'd gone off into the world and carved out her own way for quite a while before returning and taking the top job. But I don't think anybody can really say shes some "Bonvincini disciple who runs the Bonvicini system." So Candrea picked his successor, and he's been able to look over people's shoulders in his emeritus position. Regardless, I'm sure Caitlin will get a third year because that tends to be how it's done. And maybe she'll shake things up and somehow convince some superstar pitchers to come to Arizona once again and everything will be fine. Otherwise, I think I'd suggest a clean break and let somebody come in and do it completely their way.

The same should be said for the baseball program.

When it became clear it was pre-determined the Lakers/Warriors series would go more than 5 games, I switched over to the softball game to stay. Poetic justice to hit the walk-off slam for the mercy rule after they hit 2 consecutive batters and then snickered about it while meeting in the pitching circle. I realize it's unlikely to win the conference tournament, even at home, and we'll probably just get thumped by UCLA again. But this was a nice bit of sunshine in an otherwise rainy softball season.

Also, on the disappearing records watch: Oklahoma just won its 43rd consecutive game.

Arizona holds the all-time record - 47 games.
