It’s 70-16. These kind of games serve little purpose. I wonder if the women can do those private scrimmages like the men?

Although the level of competition is far below what it will be soon this team is going to be GREAT if they can get the defense anywhere near the standard of the last few years. This team has shooters and Helena is just off of winning the 3 on 3 championship looks confident. This is the best Arizona team I have seen. Not saying they will go as far but this team is not dependent on 1 or 2 players as in the past. Hopefully the chemistry remains solid.

Front court could be an issue if Cate and Lauren are out extended time.

Killing it.

We should have Adia recruit for the mens team.

Season Preview

A caveat: this is very high level.

Losing Lauren Ware for the season with knee surgery was obviously a big blow. The team wasn't particularly huge or deep to begin with, so we'll have issues with matchups and foul trouble against teams with big front lines (like Stanford's 6-7 star recruit.) So that's the bad news out of the way. I'll take Adia at her word and assume Cate Reese will be back relatively soon from concussion protocol. ASU transfer Jade Loville has been killing it in the exhibitions. West Virginia transfer Esmery Martinez seems the likely candidate to play defensive center at 6-2, although that may be a tag-team with Cate. She's been the second-leading scorer to date. So far, last year's leading scorer (and rebounder) Cate has come in third, but she missed almost the entire game with Cal State LA after hitting her head, but assuming she returns at full health, she should be near the top. Oklahoma St transfer Lauren Fields has been starting at one wing, with senior Shaina Pellington as the starting point guard.

Helena Pueyo filled in for Cate against CS-LA, and she figures to be the only real experience off the bench. In rank order behind her, it's point guards Kailyn Gilbert from Tampa and Paris Clark from Long Island, followed by Zeke's sister Maya Najii from Minneapolis, and wing Lemyah Hylton from Canada. All true freshmen. Sophomore Madi Conner hasn't played much to date. Maya's role could be significant down the road. At 6-4, she provides some rim protection presence, and she's a good rebounder. It's just tough to put a freshman in that spot.

Other than streaming, you won't see Arizona on TV for their first 7 games, and if they don't go 7-0, it'll probably be cause for some concern.
Their first really big game will be against Kansas (pre-season ranked around 30) at McKale on Dec 8. That'll be on P12N. Then a sandwich game with Texas Southern on P12A, before a game at consensus top 20 Baylor (technically in Dallas) on ESPN2. They'll stay in the Metroplex for a few days before taking on Texas Arlington, which will be the last non-televised game of the year, with all remaining games televised by P12N or P12A unless otherwise noted.

Stanford is generally rated only behind South Carolina nationally, and they've added the previously mentioned 6-7 5-star recruit Lauren Betts. We'll get them home-and-home, with the game in McKale on Feb 9 in prime time on ESPN. Oregon is in the top 20, and the game in Tucson on Jan 8 will be on ESPN2. Unfortunately for many, the return game in Eugene will only be on P12O. UCLA is ranked just below Oregon, but the LA schools don't come to McKale this year, and the game in Westwood is only on P12LA. But, the game at top 40 USC will be on P12A. Utah is in the top 25, with the traditional home-and-home setup, and with the McKale game on Feb 17. Oregon St rounds out the teams on Arizona's schedule in the pre-season top 40, with both games on P12N. The Pac-12 Tournament games starting March 1 at Mandalay Bay will all be on P12N, with the finals on ESPN2.

The regular season begins tomorrow night, November 10, against NAU at McKale.

Good. Maybe they can hire a shooting coach and/or offensive guru.

I love these types of videos are more commonly being tweeted out for the women and not just the men. Just shows the culture shift Adia has done with this program.

I wouldn't be too shocked if Adia took the job considering everything that's happened. Guess we'll see what Marquette wants to do.

Can Marquette afford her? She made $1.2M.
