We did in Women's golf

But our Women's basketball program had become just awful like Bibby said and awesome seeing Adia turn it around

Shit they only won 6 games last year, really fell off a cliff

I could be wrong, but I think that BTD was trying to say that the WBB program had become the worst out of all our other sports programs (even the intramurals lol).

Coach Barnes could really be on the verge of something special. This season was huge and this win today, before a packed house, was extra huge.

My bad then. I thought he was saying all our womens teams sucked.

And with all the auto bids to shitty conferences, it's more like the ladies were around #40, not #65 Captain Obvious.

Considering the women's team has pretty much been the worst program in the conference for a decade, this is a pretty big deal.

Anyone who has followed the program over the last 15 years knows just how bleak and nuclear winter things had gotten.

Didn't Niya Butts' teams lose like 14 out of 16 to ASU? What AD would let any program do that?

They did. Women's basketball was easily the worst sport outside of Men's Tennis on campus. Men's Tennis just won their first game against a PAC 12 school since 2014 and won consecutive matches against PAC 12 opponents for the first time since 2009. If Barringer97 was still posting here he would hate me talking trash on Men's tennis

I will never understand the Niya Butts situation. I know typically Arizona holds on to coaches a bit longer then most but still it was obvious Niya was not a good coach and then I felt like she got another 5 years after that point.

The job Adia has done to literally pull us out the ashes is amazing. Miracle like. Just so awesome when Tucson gets behind a program, really shows what great fans we have

What a great weekend for Arizona Athletics. Woman's BB NIT champs, BB sweep SB sweep, beat ASSu is beach volleyball. Hell, even the men's tennis team got a conference win.

Maybe WBB deserves its own sub-forum, like Softball has.
(could even go in as a sub-forum to the main basketball page)

Adia should really be the face of the athletic program for the time being. She's really getting it done.

I know a lot of love is currently being placed in the season thread.

But just wanted to put a little here.

Especially after leading us to our first ever road win over a top 10 team.

The job Adia has done, and continues to do, both on the court and off (community stuff, recruiting, etc) is just amazing.

Even more impressive is how open she is to continuing to learn and get better. I love listening to her talk basketball, and hopefull will get to listen to her talk it for the rest of her career.

She'd better be getting a huge raise after this season. We also need to extend her contract forever, but I'll take a few extra years.

Not a bad interview if you want to hear her talk about taking the AZ job, the team, and such.

For all his faults, greg byrne did a heck of a job reaching out to her and getting her to take the job

Duke coach resigns and Barnes is made a top candidate according to the rumor mill. Former coach was at 1.3m and she is at 400k with us. I am sure we get the home town discount but I would think we need to make a few promises of a pay raise when the waters calm. Can’t see her leaving but you never know

Duke has already cut coaches salaries twice. Can't imagine them bringing in anyone close to what the old coach was making. Even $500K is a tremendous amount for any female sport coach due to those programs being huge money losers.

Even Mike Candrea only makes $345K with 8 natties!

Winter sports gaining a free year of eligibility seems like it would be a MASSIVE boost to the women's program, 2 more years of Aari and Sam Thomas if they choose to stay. Keeping those and considering our recent recruiting, seems like the next 2 years could be incredible. Already high hopes for next year.
