Kim Mulkey leaves Baylor to coach at LSU

Post by Irish27 »

I wonder if any of her players would leave? Adia could use another guard.

Hopefully Copeland does not ask out of her commitment since she originally transferred to LSU.

21 years and 3 national championships at Baylor, and she leaves for LSU. While I don't particularly think I'd like to live in Waco, I don't know how much more I'd prefer Baton Rouge. In any event, apparently LSU also made a run at Adia with the big bucks, so thank God she's got strong Wildcat blood. We do probably need to pay her more, though. I think part of it may be more than the money for Mulkey. She can only do more of the same and match her previous successes at Baylor, but it'll all be new and she can be a big hero all over again at LSU. Can't really blame someone for feeling stale and looking for a change, but it's still pretty startling.

Rumor is she did not get along with their AD and that is why she left.

If I was Baylor, my first pick would be Dawn Staley. Other coaches I would look at are Mark Campbell and Jeff Walz.

I don't see Adia going anywhere this cycle. She just had the baby, she at least got rewarded financially at some level, and she's being showered with adulation in Tucson everywhere she goes. Sam Thomas chose to come back to play for her as the face of the team, and she's got "her girls" all in place after the big adventure last season. There's also something to proving Coach Charli wrong with her comment that "it was all just Aari." More money's always great, but all I know is that many moons ago, my parents wouldn't put up with certain aspects of the Baylor/Waco environment, and I don't know that she'd particularly like it. That said, if Stanford, UCLA, or UW ever came calling with a Brink's truck full of money, I could see her possibly being tempted, so if we want to continue being a player in women's hoops, I think our administration's brilliant brain trust would be well-advised to restructure things for her prior to that with some additional compensation.

Dawn Staley is making $1.7M a year, Adia just got a raise to $580K. Adia should be jumping at potentially $2M a year even in Waco. And Arizona should be looking at why they are paying her shit in comparison to other top coaches.

If we were to lose Adia right now, it would be absolutely devastating for the program.

I'd hope there's a UofA booster(or several) out there with deep pockets and the will to keep her around, but I don't have any knowledge of our current situation in regards to boosters and women's basketball support.
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

If Adia is making 600k and baylor offers 2m..... she would be crazy to turn it down.

From everything I’ve read, Baylor is looking to go super cheap with this hire. They’re not likely to offer Mulkey type money. And yes, Adia is not paid nearly enough.

There are many fans on the Baylor message board that have suggested Adia. There are also many who do not like Mack Rhoades.

Adia doesn't strike me as the type that would want to work at a religious school.

The whole supermom thing is kind of against their vibe. Mulkey is kind of anti-LGBT, ask Brittany Greiner, but got away with it at Baylor.
We are the people our parents warned us about.

No wonder she rubbed the admin the wrong way......she's outspoken and a good coach but lacks common sense outside of basketball.

Baylor athletic department has had controversy after controversy for years. Ours sucks but at least Adia has put herself above having to deal with our problems.

Looks like Adia is not on the early Baylor list according to the Michigan website, https://247sports.com/college/michigan/ ... 164720601/.

She’s the current head coach of the Atlanta WNBA franchise.

What does that tell you about the WNBA?

Hope Aari doesn't have too much influence about hiring a coach!
