That's a pretty shot. Man would it be nice to have a big time deep threat. This UNC thing has me worried but I do still think we get him.

When is he supposed to announce?

Terrance Ferguson's hot hand lifts Team USA to win at Nike Hoop Summit

Ferguson scored 21 points, all on three-pointers, to help the USA Junior National Select Team steamroll the World Select Team 101-67 at the Moda Center. It was the most lopsided victory in Nike Hoop Summit history.

Ferguson’s seven threes broke the Nike Hoop Summit record for threes made; the previous record of six was shared by Xavier Henry (2009) and Casey Jacobsen (1999)

If we get TF, you can bump us up about 5 spots in the preseason polls.

Can u imagine him and Trier on the wings for this team next year ???

There will be lots of driving lanes for everybody. This offense could be really fun to watch.

NC visit
13hours ago
Five star shooting guard Terrance Ferguson told reporters on Friday that he has a visit scheduled at the University of North Carolina. That visit will take place next week as Ferguson has been at the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Oregon the past few days.

While the Tar Heels already have a solid recruiting class, they are trying to amp it up as they come off a National Championship Game appearance. Williams has really gone hard at Ferguson over the last few weeks, trying to add him to the recruiting class.

The last few weeks? He was in the NCAA tournament the last few weeks where recruiting isn't even a focus. Where did you get that quote from HiCat?

It would be too cool if he committed to Arizona this morning.
Maybe the glass would be half full again eh.

Could be the best shooter in this year's class.

Thanks! Allen and Trier breaking down defenses and dishing to Terrance ... not to mention Chance and Ray crashing the weak side for a rebound. This will be an incredibly athletic team. Bring in some of that Eastern nastiness and this group might surprise in a good way! LM is the sleeper. :)

The last I saw was 85% Arizona and 0% UNC. So essentially 7% jumped from us to Carolina.

Kansas seemed to be out of the recruitment even before Jackson committed. It was between Arizona, Baylor & Kansas (distant 3rd) with Arizona as the favorite after his visit. I really think he has programs like MD, NC ST UNC, & KU in his final 6 just to built some hype. He's obviously having some fun with the recruitment process this time around unlike last time where he rushed it and committed to Bama.

Probably shouldn't worry unless he actually takes a visit to UNC. But he says a lot and has given a bunch of different answers to the same questions, so we don't know if he actually does visit.

So if we get some good news from TF soon, how would our starting lineup look?

KS
TF
RS
LM
DR/CC

Where does RA fit? This is a very young but very loaded lineup. Will be interesting to see how quickly they can mesh and win some big games.

Like Lute used to say, it's not who starts...

With that lineup being wing heavy and light in the post position, I would think CSM would run more press and full court coverage, then sitting back in the pack line.

Some how you managed to leave out the only for sure starter next year, Bravo!

My guess on the two deep would be:
KS/PJC
AT/KA
TF/RA
RS/LM
DR/CC

Kobi Simmons
Allonzo Trier
Terrance Ferguson
Ray Smith
Dusan Ristic

I don't trust Smith or want him moving laterally coming off two major surgeries. Ferguson fits the more immediate need, sharpshooter to give spacing and open up driving lanes. Plus length to defend the perimeter. Trier is Trier and the best player coming back, Kobi is the best ball handler and point on the roster.

I'm assuming Smith will have to move laterally at some point. It's really hard to only move in straight lines in basketball.

I agree with letting him work his way into the groove, but LM is ready as a pf and Ray is a natural 3. We don't need to keep driving a square peg in a round hole.

You play the best players, Ray Smith > Markkanen. Doesn't matter that he's not a true 4. Ferguson isn't a SF either, but he can play as a third guard. Villanova just won with 3 guards. Derrick Williams wasn't a C either but he played it with Horne in the 4. Kyryl was a true C in that roster, and of course he didn't play over those guys.

Ray Smith playing on the wings doesn't sound good, if he has to defend guys like Ferguson/third guard more athletics SFs; will he be able to hold/keep up. Ferguson is coming here to start, and he's not playing over Trier and he's not a Pg. If Smith does get most of his minutes playing the 4, Lauri would be great as a spell and good depth if we don't pick up anyone else this year.

Besides it would suck if Miller chose to play players just because they fit the traditional pg, SG, sf, pf, & c positions. Also if he chooses to play upperclassmen just because they're upperclassmen, PJC & Allen. Same with Dusan.

You put your best players on the floor. Adjust to your personnel. Adjust to your surroundings and conditions.

You're underrating Markannen. He is going to be very good for us next year.

Simultaneously, Ray isn't going to be able to play his natural position, but he will beat out a consensus one and done first round pick? I do not get that logic. Ray Smith is considered a pro prospect at the 3, but he can't play it in college?

I don't understand it at all.

I'm not trusting any Euro, we can get a Kyryl or a Poeltl. You never know how they'll adjust to the speed, athleticism and physicality of the US game, even in college. Dusan was also supposed to be a good NBA prospect, but right know I don't see it.

Smith isn't a true 4 but again so what he likely step in and play well. He's the better player and he would have to spell Lauri Markkanen if he's the starter anyway (since we don't have any other really strong prospects lined up for the Pf position).. The 3 position would go to Ferguson and other 3 guards lineups of Rawle, Allen etc. I just foresee him logging most minutes (starter or not) as a stretch 4, because it fits the team need.

Besides plenty of pro prospects have played off position in college than their projected NBA position. The association is ever changing now, most players aren't true 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 nowadays. There are a ton of fringe and combo players, combo guards, point forwards, guard/forwards etc: there aren't many true Cs or PGs now. The league is dominated by guys that are 6'4-6'8 who can play multiple positions or guys who play off position than their prototypical position.

A couple things here, who is a consensus one and done? Lauri? Thats seems odd that he would be a consensus one and done when he was the 24th rated recruit, but I don't follow draft blogs. Additionally Ray Smith will have had a full year under the Strength and Training program at Arizona, that is a huge benefit for him. Finally Ray Smith is 6'8" 220, there will be more minutes for him at the 4 (barring a grad transfer) and IMO he would thrive there. Especially playing the stretch 4 which Miller loves.

DX has Lauri as a #23 pick in 2017 and that's an older projection that does not deal with his recent physical development. Take a look at the last report date:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Lau ... nen-73519/" target="_blank

We're all projecting, but I'm very sold on Markannen being our guy from day 1. I get that Ray could slide up, but I don't see that as option 1 when you have Lauri. Lauri is no Euro project.

Edit: Gronk, yeah, the buzz on Lauri is we have him for one year. Draft analysts have him in high regard.

Here's how I see it if we get TF and no one else.

You can play 3 posts. If we get 25/25/20 out of CC/DR/LM, that leaves 10 minutes to play small with Ray at the 4. That expands the total minutes available to our wings from 80 to 90, meaning all 4 (RS/TF/RA/AT) can play 20+ MPG without any more flexing needed than Ray at the 4.

That would be my vision.

Can't believe I left out Trier. I've had it in my head that he'd be gone to the pros, and it hasn't fully set in that we get this guy for another year. Amazing.

Yes, a very wing heavy lineup with excellent depth. I'm wondering too what type of player could give us trouble next season. Tarc was our best big defender, so we'll need a lot from DR, CC, and LM.

Hard to believe how good our bench is going to be.
