Like I said earlier, I don't know why any recruit would sign with anyone right now. Verbal commitment, sure, but I don't know why they would ever do more. With the FBI specter looming over so many programs, open options are good for players.

I feel comfortable saying that he assumes Joe Pasternack was involved to some extent. It's the only logical conclusion.

Chris Wright, Williams’ father, said his son remains solidly committed to the Wildcats but is “99 percent” likely to wait until the spring period.

“We’re gonna have a call tonight to talk about this but as of right now, I’m gonna say no,” Wright said Tuesday. “It looks like it will probably be a spring decision. We’re still 100 percent Arizona and not looking at other schools but still looking at it day by day. If Sean Miller gets through this investigation, there’s a good chance he’ll sign.”

Good news. Here's hoping.

Yep, they could care less about a non profit educational institution. They want the corporate greed.

The smart college bball fan knows the shoe companies are the pumps here and have ruined things. Doesn't matter where the top 20 kid was going as he was getting paid by someone.

None of those guys will do time as long as they play ball with the feds. Can't imagine Book has anything on Miller, at least anything the feds would value

Good Lord I hate this thread!!! I realize it’s important but it’s, without a doubt, the most depressing thread in this history of Arizona Hoops.

Everyday I don’t see a new post here is a good day so far UNTIL we hear Miller is all clear and it’s all over. BTFD y’all.

UNC? Fuck that, let's follow Auburn's lead. Did they ever deny they paid Cam Newton's dad?
Or do those rules only apply to SEC football?

In the immortal words of some anonymous SEC football bagman: "Go tell the NCAA you think we're cheating because this kid's uncle bought him a used Tahoe in cash, you racist."

This doesn't sound like good news. So we sign no one in Fall, let all the grubby other programs negative recruit Williams and Shareef for a few months. Ugh

We could always threaten to kidnap his family. One problem with that is that it's hard to strongarm a 7'1, 425 pound ex pro athlete. Then there's morality...

Other than that, yeah, we have to let the decisions happen.

USC seems to be closing some recruits.

This is what's hurts the most, a dynasty was in the making...

Josh Gershon:

As a program I think Louisville obviously was hit the hardest. From a 2018 recruiting class perspective, I’ll go with Arizona.

The Wildcats already had a pair of Top 40 commitments in Brandon Williams and Shareef O’Neal but were right there with number one 2018 prospect R.J. Barrett, heavy favorites for Scout’s 2nd ranked prospect in Bol Bol and arguably led for Top 10 prospect Nassir Little.

With Arizona losing a good percentage of its roster after this season, the 2018 class was extremely important and UA went from signing potentially the top group in the country to now the staff being in a position where it will likely need to rely on grad transfers in the spring in order to fill out a roster for next year.

All indications are that Arizona will be set up for a potential Final Four run in 2017-18, but it could take quite some time for the program to return to its current level of talent.

SC lost a recruit and got a verbal from Elijah Weaver. A verbal is not binding, and we have verbals on Shareef and Brandon.

I would take bets that if the NCAA heat hits SC hard, Weaver's not going to regard that verbal as 100%.

I need new beats headphones and a nintendo switch but Im broke right now. College sucks. Why should a student athlete who plays at an elite college have to pay rent out of their own monthly scholarship check when we barely get any money in the first place. But them stands be filled when we hooping tho and them tickets going for a lot of pop. Nevermind me tho Im just ranting. Word to CJ, college really is a scam and hustle.

This was a big complaint during the Great Recession, too. Peeps needed headphones and video games, and couldn't afford them.

When I was kid, the switch on my electric football game broke. I took it apart, and had to touch the two wires together. Got jolted a few times, but I stayed in the game.

The big issue is players know Sean Miller gets paid millions and Arizona makes around 9-10 mil in profit off basketball.

Yeah, what Trier is talking about is not a life necessity. But, when millions are flying around because of what Trier does on the court...I don't blame him. It cuts back to what I was posting earlier. The entire issue here is driven by the basic tension between the big money driving college athletics and the rules that attempt to separate the players from that money.

Bob Knight criticizes John Wooden over UCLA recruiting practices
Knight ripped UCLA for allowing booster Sam Gilbert to violate NCAA rules while he attempted to recruit players to the school.

Saying, "I've never been a Wooden fan," former Indiana coach Bob Knight criticized Hall of Fame UCLA coach John Wooden over the Bruins' recruiting practices during their historic run.

"I have a lot of respect for Wooden as a coach, how he coached. He was a good coach," Knight said in an interview on "Undeniable with Joe Buck" that will air Wednesday (8 p.m. ET, Audience). "But from then on, and I don't mind saying it, I don't respect Wooden, because he allowed Sam Gilbert to do whatever it took to recruit kids.

"And one time he told me, he said, 'I just didn't know how to deal with Sam Gilbert.' And I'm saying to myself, 'I damn sure could have dealt with him.'"

In 1981, UCLA received a one-year postseason ban and had its 1980 national championship game appearance vacated over Gilbert's actions, though the NCAA violations cited were not during the Wooden era.

"Personally, I liked John, as a person, but it isn't just John, it's a whole UCLA approach to recruiting," Knight said. "I think John was called in and told he didn't have to worry about recruiting, that they had people that would take care of that for him."

Knight, a former ESPN analyst, and the Hoosiers did not endure NCAA violations during his tumultuous tenure at the university, but Indiana did receive three years of probation in November 2008 for more than 100 impermissible phone calls made by former coach Kelvin Sampson.

I have a general true/false question.

T/F: The most readily available means of lessening the severerity of NCAA consequences is to win a national championship. Reason: the NCAA absolutely hates the pr hit they have to take in labeling a national championship team cheaters.

This link has a good summary of the NCAA's past position on the issue:
