What is the difference between someone who drives around town in a vehicle while loaded and someone who walks around Walmart with an AK-47 that is loaded?

What a breathtakingly stupid question, but I’m actually chiming in to tell you to keep politics in the politics forum.

I’d say you should know better, but that post was so dumb that I'm not so sure about that now.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Not to excuse anybody, but life is hard. College is a brief time when everyone you know is in only a little bit of trouble. As time passes, we watch it all fall apart.

Not to downplay either, but one is responsible for 29 deaths per day and the other for 0.2.

Longhorned's comment is unfortunately sad but in many cases true. Fortunately for me, my band of idiots from HS and college, as well as family, has somehow come out relatively unscathed so far in life (that I know of), but this seems to be the exception to the norm, or at least the perceived norm. I'm sure most of us have had things we wish we'd never done and just got lucky they didn't turn out the way they could have.

This. Things could have gone down a different path for me and others if luck had been different at a particular moment.

DWI is a serious risk, and an unnecessary one. And I agree, most, if not all of us, have taken serious and unnecessary risks in our lives.

Probability is a bitch, and call it what you will (luck, guardian angels, grace, serendipity, etc), here we all are....

I don't know anything about the nature of this kind of decision. Is the key to plan for everything while you're completely sober? So you don't make decisions when you're drunk?

If so, that still doesn't solve the problem of spontaneous drunkenness. At least in my world, you can be walking from one meeting to the next, and someone will reach out and grab your arm, and next thing you know you're three drinks in at The Dutch. Parents with 3 year olds waiting to get picked up in day care are exempted from this pattern, but I can still relate.
