It's easy to overlook people. Michael Jordan lost the MVP to a few people (Malone, Barkley) purely based off the fact his greatness was old news. Same thing with Miller.gumby wrote:Not just the Pac-12.
The awards are like fertilizer, apparently. Just spread them around.
The other coaches decided "Anyone But Arizona" and picked accordingly. I'm honestly surprised they didn't also snub Stanimal but that would have been insanely obvious.'ZONA97 wrote:And that's another thing...Main Event wrote:
How in the fuck do you give DPOY to a freshman on a team that plays zone?? Are you kidding me???
RHJ got shafted as bad as TJ IMO.
I really do think it's a jealousy thing. Bill Self just won the Big12 for the 11th time in a row with a team that lost the #1 and #3 picks in the NBA draft, and yet he didn't win the COY award in that conference either.Spaceman Spiff wrote:It's easy to overlook people. Vegas is going to be a blood bath. Can't wait.Main Event wrote:
I know Romar and Miller like each other, and I get the feeling that there is a mutual respect between Miller and K. It's no shock that Miller didn't win COY...as I can think of maybe 1 or 2 coaches who would even vote for him.
It's just dumb. Krystowiak would have been a better choice than Altman. Altman has that sleazy edge of overperforming after a rape scandal. I don't doubt there's some jealousy, but it's easier to take consistent excellence for granted vs the guy who isn't supposed to win like that.Chicat wrote:I really do think it's a jealousy thing. I guarantee you TJ cares, he knew exactly what was riding on this. Every player wants to have their name on a banner at a storied program.Beachcat97 wrote:Easy, Chi.
Has Self won COY every year in the Big 12? Has KU's best player won POY every year? And they've won how many B-12 titles in a row?
The respect is great, but do you really think Miller and TJ care very much about this? No. They care about winning a national title.
Enfield is on the list. Most definitely.Zero wrote:My guess on who is anti Arizona

Absolutely. And I KNOW Sean Miller cares about this snub. Losing to Delon would be one thing, but losing out to Joseph Young of all players is a slap in the face to everything that TJ McConnell and Sean Miller stand for on the basketball court.ZONACAT wrote:I guarantee you TJ cares, he knew exactly what was riding on this. That should be the list. No doubt about that.Alieberman wrote:

CorrectChicat wrote:Sean Miller absolutely cares that his man TJ McConnell just got denied conference player of the year. You think he doesn't? Ha!
Not unprecedented, but still putrid.Chicat wrote:Let's not forget that last year Aaron Gordon didn't make the all-defensive team. So it's not like this kind of dumbfuckery is unprecedented.
Possibly believable that an on-ball defender as good as Rondae doesn't win it, but unbelievable to lose it to a guy who plays zone.gumby wrote: Can't believe a guy who plays in a zone gets DPOY.

I'd even say they gave the slightly bigger shaft to Rondae. Hmm, that sounds dirty, but you know what I mean.'ZONA97 wrote: RHJ got shafted as bad as TJ IMO.
With how much TJ cares about AZ basketball (hello, he even kissed the A on his last walk off the court!) one would have to believe he wanted to win this and get his name up in the ring of honor.Chicat wrote:Absolutely. pretty sure I've seen this post before....it's still trueBosy Billups wrote:Folks, this is the only way coaches can really get at Arizona, because it aint happening where it counts, and it aint happening with Larry Scott, lol.
This is pure flattery at his finest. We're doing something right, even if it's not just. It's lonely at the top, let those chumps take the crumbs, we'll take the titles.
I wouldn't be so sure with that....i'm sure the officials will have something to say about AZ playing how we should be able to.AZCatGirl wrote:Vegas is going to be a blood bath. Can't wait.Main Event wrote:

I do think there is an element of that a coach that gets all the good players isn't necessarily a great coach when he wins with those players. I do think there is some truth to that in that sometimes its the lucky breaks you get in working at a school that brings in great players merely by history or location. UCLA is a great example of this. Now Miller took a program that had been essentially built from the ground by Olson (although Snowden had some good years here) and then had been run back into the ground to an extent and put it back on track quickly. Miller uses the past history of the program to help bring in new players. Of course, Oregon St. has just a shining history as Arizona but has completely been driven into the ground. Both Washington and Oregon have recent successful years but have not been able to keep a consistently good program. Stanford and Cal both have some good recent history but have been unable to keep consistency. Wash St and USC are just black holes. ASU is in a different category of awful all together. Utah has a past and a recent awful past. Colorado thinks it has history but doesn't.Chicat wrote:I really do think it's a jealousy thing.
