There is something on the Arizona athletics site.

No diablos Thursday but the other days. PBR Thursday and any other day that U of A is playing is what I took from it.

Larry Scott ladies and gentlemen.
I am not defending Scott here but you have to realize how tv works. You only have so many slots to fit games and ESPN already has so much inventory with big ten acc and big 12. A fox deal would have been better than this or nbc sports but we want ESPN so this is what we get,

The disadvantages of being on the West Coast.
If that Oregon game started a half hour earlier, then it would fit in an entire time slot on ESPN2 that doesn't have college basketball (regular programming). Even the game after it on ESPN2 is the Big10 first round, 12/13 vs 5. That's a pretty lousy game to have there. Also, ESPNU is showing SEC swimming and diving during that game, and regular programming until 5 MT. There's absolutely no reason SEC swimming should be on ESPNU (instead of SEC net) while there are top 10 basketball teams playing.
This is all built in years and years in advance and all those other conferences get better ratings unless it is a huge matchup. Can't bank on that. And espnu is better but not much better than pac12 today. If Scott wasn't trash negotiation that oac12 would be better.

the pac 12 network reallllyyyy shouldn't have been a go it alone thing. sec network has espn backing it and the big 10 network has fox backing it. the only sports nbc has are notre dame home football games, the olympics, some hockey and sunday night football. they missed the bus giving nbc a monopoly on showing pac 12 games and supporting the pac 12 network nationwide.

Here we go again. Every year, when ESPN talks or throws up articles about the Pac 12 Tournament, it speaks in terms of the winner being the conference champion- that it wins the Pac 12 title/championship. And again, as always on this point, they are grossly wrong. It's a pet peeve of mine. Get it right. Whoever wins the Pac 12 tournament is the post season tournament champion, and does get the auto bid. But the conference championship, fought over the regular season, has been determined. Arizona and Oregon are co-champions.

it is the ACC bias coming in. they are the only major conference where the tournament champion is the "official" record book champion of the conference...yet the media insists on treating tournaments for every other league the same.

Well the automatic qualifiers are the conference tournament winners, so there is that. UW has the distinction of winning the PAC outright and actually not dancing just 5 years ago.

I acknowledge that, of course. The tournament winner gets the auto-bid. As for UW's distinction, I agree in a major conference, that is very rare. But it certainly isn't in all the mid major conferences.

Right. The reason for conference tournaments is additional $$$. That is the reason. It actually makes the regular season a bit more meaningless, except for the devoted college basketball fans. They are fun, but they actually harm the sport IMO.

With that said, I'll be in Vegas. I know, hypocrite.

Hope we can all meet up. Will be at both the Thursday and Friday PBR event. I will try and get an identifier and put 49 on it. Say hi, first beer is on me.

Anyone know if the teams are still staying at the MGM?

I'll be in town for a buddy's bachelor party. We're probably going to stop by the UA events, and will go to the championship game if we make it that far. My first visit to Vegas actually. Hoping that we have a game to go to Saturday.

Agreed on $$$. Yep, you got that right. And wouldn't go with hypocrite. Hell, I would love to go to Vegas for the tournament if I could. My wife and kid will be there though, on a soccer tournament. They are looking to go to Championship on Saturday if they can find tickets (only if UA is in it).

I was told that the teams are not staying at the Monte Carlo. I was also told by someone at the MGM that he believes some teams are staying there. He doesn't know who or how many. He's checking on it but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response.

On another note, he did say the lion in the MGM lobby is all decked out in PAC-12 gear again.

http://kenpom.com/blog/2017-pac-12-tournament-forecast/" target="_blank

2017 Pac 12 tournament forecast

Pac 12 Conference (conference rank: 6th)
March 8-11
All games at Las Vegas
kPOY: Lonzo Ball, UCLA.
Regular season champ: Oregon (preseason #6 / 1st Pac 12, current #17) and Arizona (preseason #10 / 2nd Pac 12, current #21)
Overachiever: UCLA (preseason #21, current #16)
Underachiever: Oregon State (preseason #81, current #272)

While the Pac 12 had multiple teams in the AP top 10 for nearly the entire season, in some ways it was disappointing. Just four of the 12 teams improved on their preseason rating and four teams currently sit outside the top 100, with Stanford in danger of becoming a fifth with a bad opening-game performance. And there are conceivable ways in which the conference gets just three bids to the NCAA tournament.

But the high ranking in human polls of UCLA, Oregon, and Arizona has generally saved the conference’s reputation. However, predictive ratings are quite a bit more pessimistic about these teams than most humans are, in part due to the relatively soft nature of the rest of the league. So we await the NCAA tournament to resolve this conflict to whatever extent it can.

Some of the difference might be resolved in Vegas this week, too. The highly-ranked trio has about an 85% chance to take the title according to my ratings. Whichever team does so will surely be a popular human choice to win it all. But there’s also a small but realistic chance that Utah, USC, Cal, or Colorado goes all the way.

A 0.1 percent chance to win it is the best news ASU's had in a while. So you're telling me there's a chance?

My daughter's club was originally scheduled to play in that tournament, and I was looking forward to the trip, though I thought it was next week, not this week. But it has to be the same Vegas club soccer tournament. We usually stay at the Embassy Suites across from UNLV when we do play Vegas, and it has no casino (which is why the club likes being there), but the Hard Rock is across the street for getting my bets in.

We backed out of it because we went to Orange County CPL Showcase last week and scheduled Portland in June.

Well that play summed up why Oregon state is Oregon state. Down 2, have a 3 on 1 with 1:00 left and shoot a 3 that draws nothing.

There is an article on CBS Sports where Parrish says that the PAC-12 is, if not the best, at least the most watchable. The PAC-12 has 5 possible lottery picks. etc. etc. etc. Its an OK article.

Only problem is that the photo that headlines the article on the Basketball front page is of Gabe York.

I did this wrong. I just realized I have scheduled myself to be in San Francisco on the way out of the country and back to Australia on the 30th, in the air on the 1st, and in Sydney on the 2nd.

WTF??? Couldn't I have extended my trip for a few days and gone to Phoenix for crying out loud? SHEEESH!!!!

I mean who cares that the wife has to back to teach a class on the 4th. She has been in an airplane by herself before.

I won't be there this year but I am really interested to hear if T-Mobile is any different than MGM in relation to our domination of the stands, and whether the larger/more modern arena takes away some of the fun. What I hope is this doesn't become a Staples situation where the arena is simply too big...I never felt like more people wanted to go to the PAC tourney than were in the MGM arena. All the Arizona fans, then a sprinkling of other fans were just enough to top off the MGM...I'd hate for T Mobile to show as 20% empty. The MGM seemed perfect, created a touch of scarcity, and a ton of environment for the viewers who had been bored by Staples crowds.

It seemed to me we had it perfect with MGM Grand Garden...a smaller arena filled with Arizona fans to the last row. I understand T-Mobile is already using the ASU curtain (not the Distraction one, the Limit Capacity one) to lower visual capacity from the full arena size. I'd rather play in that odd little single decker with the claustrophobic Wildcat Walk than move to Staples Lite and see a bunch of seats.

i wondered about that too. the MGM held 12000 for basketball but T-Mobile holds 18000 for basketball. while attendance was way better at the MGM than Staples, it still only really filled up when Arizona was playing. Even if Arizona fans show up in record numbers, i don't see T-Mobile really selling out any games. Only 2 of the games yesterday had attendance numbers posted (oregon state/cal and washington/usc) and the average (paid) attendance was around 8800. that's still 9000 empty seats.
